Embedded-systems-adjacent jack of all tiers, left-swerving but not as active as I should be (wip). Born in the late 20th century, at 350 ppm.

Incorrigible dabbler. I have many more instruments than I can play well, more knitting needles than finished pieces, and more plants than my brain can care for.

Somewere in the Bermuda triangle of non-binary, agender, and genderfluid, but mostly look like a guy with long hair and occasionally nail polish.

Three weeks later I've found the delayed start setting on my laundry machine.

It is called "ready in". That *is* the more useful way to do that setting, but somehow it completely failed to register. Starting to worry about my ability to absorb new information.

Researchers found that writers using biased AI agents to auto-complete suggestions had their sociopolitical values shifted without their knowledge it was happening.

We worry about cognitive capture, what the LLMs of big tech are doing to our ability to identify and think through problems. We should be equally worried about them making a grab for our ethos, what we care about, and at population scales.

It's #WorldBicycleDay and a good time to mention this graph from Scientific American, first published in 1973, and updated 2025.

A person on a bike is the world's most energy-efficient mode of transport, and it's not even close. Salmon use three times as many joules/g/km to get around, and then it's jet aircraft at 5x.

my home internet has been flaky, dropping out for 5-30 minutes a few times daily. Based on what my router is telling me it _might_ be a DHCPv6 problem on the ISP's end? Pain in the ass to debug, and the router's "system logs" somehow contain nothing of use.

.. it's buildroot & busybox, I should be able to get a terminal somehow

I had a brain idea so I made a picture of it. #pride

OK turns out I was in the middle of the final mission when I wrote that, it's very intentionally (and explicitly) a "tiny game" so I guess I should shut up and enjoy the couple of hours I had with it

(kinda hoping they can do a bigger followup though)

I feel like there might be more game when you buy more automation so you don't have to manually collect garbage and poll citizens' opinions? But mechanically there doesn't seem to be any new complexity

I'd been eyeing Minami Lane for a while, got it on sale today, ... and played as much as I want, I think. Very cute little management game about figuring out what different inhabitants want (like selecting which 3 out of 6 items a shop should carry, or twiddling boba tea ingredients).

... I just wish it had adjacency bonuses or any sort of interaction between the buildings you place other than "more people -> demand for park go up"

Dear app developer*,

When you've added a new feature to your app, an app I only ever use for ten seconds at checkout,

don't make the "look here!" a modal that I have to dismiss to continue because I will dismiss it without reading anything.

* Google, in this case.
