Radio, rocks, electronics, and other nonsense.

I make ridiculous things with modest skills for the sheer joy of it, and I share things in the hope that it brings you a bit of joy as well (but that's not a requirement).

For the first of #mayke, experimenting with forging tapers from silver wire (a re-mayke of something I did with @jarkman last summer) and adding some hammered texture.

Much to learn, but it's a start.

My coffee table seems to be lost in thought today.

Anyone up for #mayke again this year?

Grasp the means of production

Make something, big or tiny, every day in May

You want to slack off for the day.

There is no fayle, only mayke

(here's my #mayke -3 from yesterday - a titanium spoon, from the school of @jarkman sporks)

The collective noun for grackles is a 'plague'. The males are quite pretty in their own way (if noisy), but when it's like this...you see where the term comes from.

Thousands of black birds - aka grackles - take over parking lot in Houston

Two male #grackles doing a 'sky pointing' display in their natural habitat: A Lowes parking lot.

(Grackles roost by the hundreds/thousands in parking lots around here, if you've never heard one, they sound like the rustiest hinge you've ever encounter)

there are a pair of neighborhood crows nesting in my back yard. today, one of them found a dry old piece of bread somewhere down the alley and flew over to my lawn with it.

she looked around carefully and dropped it into the eavestrough drain, where some water pooled from an overnight shower.

she flew away for 5 minutes and just came back to eat once it was well soaked 😆

It is literally impossible to explain ADHD task avoidance to people who don't experience it, I think.

It has to sound absolutely insane to just sit around, filled with dread and anxiety, not doing a small thing you "could do any time" that really needs to get done. And to just continue that way for hours, days, weeks, months, even fucking years.

Like, who lives that way? How can anyone live that way? (I live that way, but I don't know how I survive)

Hey Fedi, so I had surgery at the beginning of the month to cut a 10cm lump out of my abdomen, and I'm about half way through the recovery; I currently work in warehousing so need a lot of time off because it's physical labour, so I return to work on 19 May, hopefully. Which means my first payday would be the 28th of May.

So I have a crowdfunder going to help me through till then. As it stands, if I don't buy any food (I am buying food), I still need about $400 in two weeks time for rent (covered), $150 the week after that for phone and internet (current goal), and another $500 the week after that for rent again.

I've raised a little, which combined with a tiny bit of savings has got me till now, but from here on is when it gets Really Tight... I'd really like to continue having food, shelter, and internet, so if you can help that would be most appreciated, and if not then please share the link around, both on here and anywhere else you are able.
Thanks.

On the other hand, if you know somewhere looking to hire a C developer, Unix Sysadmin, or something similar, I could start that remotely immediately. So point me at them or them at me, and then I can stop begging.

The van is dead.

Something catastrophic happened to the engine while crossing the Humber Bridge last night. Clattering, oil smoke, warning lights, loss of power, and today a really potent smell of fuel and a very wet fuel pump. Suspect it's destroyed the engine bearings, possibly due to a failed mechanical fuel pump putting fuel into the oil and washing the bores.

If you're in the UK and can collect it before the 11th of May, it's yours. I'm moving house, I can't sort this.

Difficult one today! Of all of these types of games, I'm enjoying the challenge of this one the most lately.
