@duncan_bayne @Wyvernsridge Economic activity ceased due to lockdown measures, savings accumulated because people couldn't spend. When restrictions were lifted there was a consumer spending splurge, compounded by price-gouging corps who took advantage to artificially raise prices (here in the UK, notably on energy), while posting record profits. This is informally known as "greedflation". It had nothing to do with government spending and was predicted by #MMT.

For Americans alarmed by the weaponization of false claims of "antisemitism" by the Musk-Trump regime and foot soldiers to smear and detain anyone who speaks up on Palestinian rights and Isreal's documented war crimes, I wrote a short thread a few months back on how the same tactics were used to destroy the British left and keep Jeremy Corbyn out of power.

In 2022, the biggest leak in British political history was obtained by the Al Jazeera Media Network. 500gb of files including emails, audio and video from within the UK Labour Party spanning a 23-year period. The resultant documentary exposed the extent to which senior figures had sought to undermine their own party’s chances in the 2017 and 2019 general elections. Flippin real old-school deep internet magic happened this week.

There was a discussion about an old C64 game that was beloved by a couple of people including me.

Someone saw this and posted that they were in-person with the developer of that game.

The next day the dev joined Mastodon to join in the conversation and we could tell him direct how amazing his work was.

This... THIS is what the internet and social media should be like, and, as far as I remember, was for some time a while back.
