It's true!
In (low quality) fact, a single uncooked spaghetti noodle is good for up to three locks!

@lowqualityfacts here's the third. I almost gave up, but decided to keep trying with the remaining bits of the first noodle.
"What do you mean, officer? Somebody told you I was picking this lock? With what, spaghetti? lol"
*crunch crunch*
@sasutina13 I have some flat lasagna noodles, and I was thinking about doing a latch-slipping video with one.
i suspected you'd respond to that 'fact' in some way, i should have known it would be in a spectacular way.
@michaelgemar not really, just three different kinds of warded lock. I'm using my noodle (π) to skip the complicated bits and poke the mechanism directly.
Which sounds like a bypass attack, but I'm still just doing what the key would be doing.
@alice @lowqualityfacts Got it.
Itβs a skeleton pasta.
@michaelgemar yeah, basically π
Now I want to try cooking pasta, shaping it into lockpicking tools, and then re-drying it.
I bet I could make some workable tools...
Now I want to spaghetti noodle a bike lock that was left on the porch by people who no longer live here. Lol
It's been here over 10 years now.
@momo pasta selection is vital to physical security audits.
Does the spaghekey have to be Barilla? I'm poor.
@Newk no, that just happened to be what my roommate had (I can't afford Barilla, do I look that rich? I have rice).
I am adopting the word spaghekey! It is perfect!
@alice
Sorry about spoiling the fun, but iβm sad about the brand choice.
@zipkid oof, good to know! (I borrowed the single noodle from my roommate, then threw it in the compost after).
Fuck though, why do bigots have to ruin everything? π€¬

Oh wait, this article is 13 years old. Is this boycott ongoing? Or has the company switched CEO's or anything since?
@CordiallyChloe @alice @zipkid It looks like they did an about-face. Interesting.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barilla_(company)#Controversies
@solitha Oh, I see they made amends in https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2018/11/barilla-released-limited-edition-spaghetti-lesbian-art-box/ and
https://www.barillagroup.com/en/purpose/diversity-inclusion/lgbtq/
On the other hand, the same Wikipedia article says Barilla is still operating in Russia and has increased their profits there since Russia invaded Ukraine.
So I don't need to rush back from Ronzoninand supermarket brands (especially since my wife has gone gluten-free).
@alice @zipkid @lowqualityfacts I don't have any of the references in front of me, but I remember reading that Barilla had distanced itself from the CEO for those remarks and was mostly divested from him.
i.e. the brand Barilla didn't like that talk either and has done better.
(if that's not true, I'm going to have to start shopping for different pasta again.)
@LexPendragon @alice @zipkid @lowqualityfacts
They have made a nearly complete turnaround following the CEOs remarks. They are now considered very inclusive and supportive of LGBTQ+ rights and organizations!
I know of all the PR efforts to save the brand by keeping their CEO quiet and showing a different face. I still will not buy it.
@zipkid @alice @lowqualityfacts
I did some research and found multiple sources on how Barilla changed since then (2013). The CEO apologized and the company has been working to do better for many years. They seem to actively support queer causes and employees now.
@chrisp sounds like they may have turned around as a company since then.
@zipkid @alice @lowqualityfacts Barilla not only canned its CEO & profusely apologized for his homophobia, the company immediately initiated a massive restructuring that included reforming internal policies, appointing a chief diversity officer, & partnering with LGBTQ advocacy groups such as GLAAD & Human Rights Campaign.
Every year since 2014, Barilla has earned a perfect 100% score on the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index, becoming a leader in LGBTQ+, women, & ethnic/racial minorities inclusion.
I only know this because I'd been boycotting Barilla since 2013 & then very recently encountered it when I was cooking for elderly shut-ins with donated Barilla pasta. When my test-bite was absofucking delicious, I went to my phone-puter to research the latest.
@sentientsponge @zipkid @alice @lowqualityfacts It's definitely more expensive than most brands, but not prohibitively so considering it tastes much more like fresh pasta than it tastes like most other dried pastas.
Glad you weren't missing out!
That makes me think i may reconsider.
On the other hand, if they just forbade the CEO to talk, while them still being an asshole, and collecting the earnings, i would still support the boycott.
You just made a lot of Italian lock makers really angry for two reasons.
@alice And now you are going to cook the locks al dente. And serve with gorgonzola sauce.
Crack, now I'm hungry.
@rdm why thank you π₯°
New competition challenge: What is the most complex lock you can pick with a piece of spaghetti?
And has anyone notified the LPL?
@rdm please don't notify LPL, I don't like to associate with Trump supporters or their associates.
@paraw yes, but I didn't test other brands (due to a lack of spaghetti in my cupboard).
