Been musing on this; this past week I had cause to apply my first aid training (https://mastodon.social/@WTL/116762516715132173), and I started to wonder, how many people have taken first-responder aid training? No shame either way, just curious.

Yes, past 3 years.
Yes, within past 10 years.
Yes, but over a decade ago.
No.

I need to move to a new instance. Is there a Fedi for Moms or similar instance out there somewhere?

@FediGarden @FediTips @user47

just saw a clever paragraph from Cycle Toronto.

"The loss of income, businesses, and connection with friends and family [during the pandemic] was common, but not evenly distributed. And early enthusiasm for the collective sacrifice to "flatten the curve" increasingly metastasized into resentment. At some point we started normalising how much inconvenience was worth other people's safety."

absolutely right. so when some people rage against bike lanes, it may not be about the bike lanes per se.

Scraping, historically, has been pretty important to the open web. And *most* scraping hasn't been *spidering*, which is the stronger, less intentional version. And even that could be acceptable, if you were polite about it.

What we've seen with AI orgs DDOS'ing everyone has meant that self-hosting has become incredibly hard as a baseline in a way that used to resemble targeted attacks which were generally *frowned upon* doing to someone.

This nightmare for every book author.

Agency stole bestselling author's book, used AI to relaunch as their own https://waxy.org/2026/06/the-wholesale-plagiarism-of-obscure-sorrows/

The Wholesale Plagiarism of Obscure Sorrows - Waxy.org

Without permission, a marketing agency republished the entirety of John Koenig's Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows book, replacing its art with AI slop and adding new AI words and definitions. Their unauthorized site now ranks higher than the real one everywhere.

Saturday #Workout:
10 minutes of yoga.
5 minutes of strength training (movement snack while tea steeping).
43.9 KM of #Cycling (16°C, 85% humidity, and 21 KM/H wind).

Morning of reading, tea, some yoga, and then headed out for a longer ride around Ottawa. Ran into @jessrawk and got some quality dog pets in too.

Teach Your Children Well
Hey Ottawans. How many of you think it's been too long since this town had a progressive mayor?
@WTL
Just finished it.
A really important read.
Absolute horror show of a company.
So glad I'm no longer anywhere near any part of Meta & co.
