Spectacled Eider breed in the Arctic on the north coasts of Alaska and Russia, but no-one knew where they went in the winter until the 1990s.
Researchers used satellite tags to find out where individuals were going, then flew over the locations to have a look..
All of the world's Spectacled Eiders winter in a single location, on pack ice just south of St Lawrence Island. Here, the wind keeps the ice open allowing the birds to dive for food.

Really dragging out Alien Clay by @aptshadow because I don't really want it to end
It's a bit creepy, though not as grim as The Mercy of Gods (new thing from the Expanse guys) but it's got an air of the latter, also of Children of Ruin, and the Pluribus writer may have read it..? Though I've only seen the first ep so far and, as a recovering biologist, found it extremely irritating.
Adrian always does his bio homework. Much more satisfying!
