He later posted this image of his camera sitting on top of what appears to be a court date notice. The caption is very cryptic, but from the picture I infer his camera survived & he was in fact arrested. No word on whether he had any injuries, though at a minimum I’d expect bruises. An absolutely #unconstitutional #arrest.

@Nonilex this reminds me of watching the 1968 Chicago police riots on TV, and a couple scenes remind me of watching the evacuation of the ghetto in Schindler‘s List. Ironically, the ice recruitment ads said these people would be protecting our “culture“. They have no shame.

@Nonilex to be clear, the people #protesting #ice are not terrorists, but the federal governments response to protestors is exactly how you create terrorist organizations. Something the US government has a lot of experience doing in many parts of the world.

@woodenmachines A crucial part of full oppression is the broadest 'middle range' pressure placed upon those that are reticent to rise up - hence the destabilization of root infrastructure, like food, housing, etc..

History is rife with these examples of Divide and Conquer strategies, and the overextended duopoly that is the US government, is the mitigating force between the wealthiest and most powerful industry in human history - fossil fuels - and the general populace. Therein lies the path to ultimate reemergence: remove the root cause of the cancer.

@Nonilex sadly there's more of this to come. I'd predicted the phase where journalists get snatched and disappeared before they'd come for ordinary citizens, but should've known they'd go the opposite direction. Darker days ahead.

The "journalists" just normalizing the decline and amplifying regime's statements without calling out the criminality have a lot to answer for.

As someone who has done a tiny bit of photojournalism in the past, this is so heartbreaking and infuriating and terrifying.

The USA is no longer a safe country for US citizens.

The Democrats in Congress better shut this country down before allowing this to continue. As the minority party, they can't do much, but they can cause a government shutdown.

@Nonilex a normal scene of any democracy sadly. If they include this kind of pictures to history books, there wouldn't be enough pages to have them all. But I don't think they would share this pictures, back in the day we didn't have photos, now we have, but they put a blindfold in our eyes.

Things like this happen in all democracies as overextensions of power that are talked for decades after. For example, in 2006 at Finland police were expecting a lot of protesters, and when the protests turned out to be smaller than expected, they turned on the bystanders and journalists.

@iju IMO isolated horrible/unlawful incidences aren't comparable with a systematic cleansing. The situation in USA is comparable to the situation GER 1933-1945, not with injustifyable single events. The political temperature is very much different - indeed similar eventls like those you mentioned happen again&again - horribly but not comparable. Main differnence: political motivation to control a people by violence & systematically ignoring law vs investigated isolated incedents. @Napo @Nonilex

I believe Napo was talking about the photo as a singular event. Those happen. Then there's a pushback when the civil rights advocates take the thing to court.

If you're speaking of the photo as an example of an endemic, then you're right as well: the lack of a successful pushback will lead to the system turning from democracy.

We remember that the repression of communists etc in Weimar happened before 1933.The noose kept tightening, until only the fascists were left.

And just so you know, USA is also part of the third world, is just that you can not pretend not be it anymore. This kind of things demostrate it.
No, there are no isolation on state repercussion, they have shot me, killed a fellow reporter, and so on, they always mess with the photographers in the protests, is how cops work.
So I was referring to the picture, is not isolated that photographers always end up beaten up by police. Is just how the freedom of democracy works.
