Jokes aside, the #Enshittification and #Enfattening of #Cars as well as spread of #CarCentrism #Propaganda from the #USA is a massive issue.

#Greedflation needs to be actively combatted by #regulation and that also means setting the right #incentives...

The #Netherlands were once almost as #CarCentric as the #USA [ @notjustbikes can propably vouch for that looking into the History, digging up 1960s & 1970s Amsterdam as example.] but they chose to do something about it with the fact that as a #German I can vouch for the fact that the Netherlands have excellent roads and far less traffic due to viable alternatives.

But also there is no #US equivalent answer to say the #OpelRocks, #CitroenAmi or even #KeiCars for that matter, with some states having been lobbied by #US car makers to explicitly outlaw #PersonalLightVehicles for no valid reason (but that they cut into their margins)... I mean, ask @tikibunnyimports about the issues some #DMV|s will create for buyers who not just want to collect weird smol cars but actually drive them.

And pricing-wise the #OpelRocksE needs to come down way more, with competing vehicles from "P.R." #China being about €1k cheaper in spite of penalty tarriffs...

And that's why I propose to aggressively work towards #PersonalLightVehicles and whilst some people may easily consider products like the #TataNano yet another billionaire's doodling turned into a product of a person who is inherently not perfect (but who'm I wished to have the chance to have tea with, but sadly never got.)...

  • Needless to say what one thinks of the Nano (which I'd love to have one as collectible if I ever got more money than sense!) or it's predecessor, the Indica (which looks like an #Opel #Corsa C 5-door.), we can propably agree that if we can't have #PublicTransport reach every village in a reasonable frequency 24/7, Personal Light Vehicles are the way to go.

Cuz we can all agree that the #WankPanzer by #SwastiCar isn't going to "save the world" (despite some dellusional #BEV fans thinking!) because it's overall #wastefulness is the Problem.

Not that I advocate for combustion engines - far from it.

Also #FuelCell solves the #RangeProblem or rather "#RangeFear" elegantly with existing (or at least trivially convertible) infrastructure, as it's way faster and cheaper to clean a fuel storage tank and pump and converting it to IPCA 99,9% Methanol, which whilst toxic upon ingestion is abundant in nature to the point that unlike #gasoline it's naturally being decomposed by bacteria and fungi.

Cuz that's what happens when someone decided to go completely bonkers in terms of high-end...

That being said, that efficiency is beatable if we - like #Volkswagen - stretch the rules and don't go by EC Vehicle Class M1, but #L5e or even #L2e, because then a lot of mandatory stuff just falls away and the small power envelope of 4-15kW [on the wheels ] is not that little if we look at #Diesel and espechally #electric powertrains, as for anything besides long distrance & highway use, low-speed acceleration and deceleration is more relevant and that is dependent on #torque (and tire grip).

  • Which is why #Bonn has a shitton of #HybridCars for #Taxis because when the average trip is less than 10km and the average speed below 30km/h (with top speeds rarely reaching 50), it's more important to safely and quickly advere to traffic lights and -flow than "make speed indicator go brr!"...

I guess my #pragmatism is alienating to #Neurotypicals who tend to use a #car not as a mere #tool but as a "projection area" for their personality and status.

  • Which in my eyes is more of a display of "fragile ego" (espechally #FragileMasculinity) than actually beneficial.
