Instead of pushing for the #Enfattening of #cars and subsequent #Enshittification with literal #ransomware by putting heating and rear-wheel - steering behind a #subscription-based #paywall the #CarIndustry needs to fucking learn from #Japan and take a look at #KeiCars!

• For those who don't know, a #KeiCar is basically a #PersonalLightVehicle with a restricted build volume & power output dictated by maximum dimensions and displacement and #engineers in #Japan really took that and basically build everything from a sleek "#DriftMachine" to a "#MiniVan" to a "#MiniTruck"...

@victoria_venery actually it's pretty good.

Like you get the benefits of a car (enclosed cabin, 3-point safety belt) and scooter (cheap to insure and maintain, no road tax, compact form factor, no mandatory tech inspections) without the disadvantages (more expensive parking & helmet mandatory) of either.

• But then again I'm pragmatic and see any #vehicle - including a #PersonalLightVehicle - as a mere tool to get something done.

But also there is no #US equivalent answer to say the #OpelRocks, #CitroenAmi or even #KeiCars for that matter, with some states having been lobbied by #US car makers to explicitly outlaw #PersonalLightVehicles for no valid reason (but that they cut into their margins)... I mean, ask @tikibunnyimports about the issues some #DMV|s will create for buyers who not just want to collect weird smol cars but actually drive them.

• Now granted, espechally when you let a convinced petrolhead with racing license like #MatthiasMalmedie drive that #PLV, you gonna see him dislike it and "not get it"...

And pricing-wise the #OpelRocksE needs to come down way more, with competing vehicles from "P.R." #China being about €1k cheaper in spite of penalty tarriffs...

• Still, we can all agree that we need #SmallerCars and with very few exceptions, a #PersonalLightVehicle makes way more sense than a jacked-up pickup truck that won't even fit into most urban roads in #Germany and espechally #Japan.
