Biblically-accurate power outlet

#Shitpost

@PurpleJillybeans is this some kind of international outlet

@maypop_neocities I'm not sure what it is TBH. It's on the back of my air conditioner, and it's just cut out of the plastic. It's not an actual outlet.

Ironically, the AC is designed to run on 120V power...

@PurpleJillybeans @maypop_neocities It's a plug store. When you go to put the unit away and roll up the cord, you slap the prongs in there to keep it off the ground.

They chose a universal design because they didn't want to have to cast and match a bunch of different body shells to go with the different plug styles.

@bluestarultor @PurpleJillybeans @maypop_neocities This is the correct answer. I'm fascinated by these things.
@PurpleJillybeans @maypop_neocities it's a place to store the plug, I imagine?
should have had a explicit warning.
@PurpleJillybeans it looks so angry โ€‹โ€‹
@PurpleJillybeans actually I'm not shure this one fits #swiss #SN441011 / #SEV1011 connector as it's polarity is flipped compared to #IEC60906-1 / #TypeN connectors and it 's barely mechanically incompatible!
@kkarhan @PurpleJillybeans Yeah, I'm gonna go out on a really thick and sturdy limb here and say that probably violates several regulations in several different countries.
@StarkRG @PurpleJillybeans yeah, Switzerland basically bans any foreign socket useage in it's borders for #ElectricalSafety reasons alone...
@PurpleJillybeans The only way that's going to fit a NZ plug is upside down. Fsck knows whether the phase and neutral are even going to be the right way round...
@PurpleJillybeans As a German trained electrician I am scared about the fact that there are no Schuko compatible earth contacts... โ€‹โ€‹
@Erpel
@PurpleJillybeans if it's like the one I've seen before, it's just for holding the plug to help keep the cable out of the way, not for power
@PurpleJillybeans oh no, you could plug in a type I plug upside down? this is horrifying. I love it
@PurpleJillybeans ok so how many plugs maximum could you fit here at the same time
@PurpleJillybeans This looks like some rune from a fantasy game
@PurpleJillybeans
1) And the priests of Eu-rop after much meditation announced the voltage shall be 210. 2) A rejoicing was heard through those lands. 3) But across the Attl-antic waters, the acolytes of Ed-is-on hardened their hearts on the words from afar. 4) โ€œWhat has been 110 shall remain 110,โ€ they exclaimed. 5) And in division, the world remained. 6) And in confusion and strife, travelers crossed the seas.
@pomCountyIrregs @PurpleJillybeans Or some part of Japan's main island...
@pomCountyIrregs @PurpleJillybeans pretty sure it was Westinghouse, not Edison. Edison's preference was DC as far as I know

@beeoproblem @PurpleJillybeans I thought Tesla was the AC guy.

Edison, a bit of an ip bully, came to mind first and woe be to any one who thinks my post as a true chronicle.

@pomCountyIrregs @PurpleJillybeans my understanding is that Westinghouse did generation and transmission. Based on wiki Tesla sold/licensed his motor and transformer designs to Westinghouse who built the power plants and distribution network.
@PurpleJillybeans

It's missing the protruding ground pin to cover the French standard...

LB: appears to have 0 safety shutters, and quite frankly looks like a good chance to learn the hard way whether the afterlife exists..

@PurpleJillybeans

@PurpleJillybeans โ€œBe not afraid!โ€
@PurpleJillybeans It doesn't look happy. โ˜น๏ธ
@PurpleJillybeans
power outlet: BE NOT AFRAID
me, beholding the power outlet: I AM AFRAID.

@rmd1023 @PurpleJillybeans

maybe they should install em the other way round

@PurpleJillybeans Looks like a letter of a an alien text one can see in Metroid or something...
@PurpleJillybeans thatโ€™s right, it goes into the square hole!
@PurpleJillybeans When you're not looking for anything specific but just want to feel something.
@PurpleJillybeans One can only imagine what it must look like inside.
@PurpleJillybeans Looks almost like the actual outlets in my hotel room in India
@PurpleJillybeans A 3-pin Australian plug would have its earth pin floating in the middle of the large hole there, which Iโ€™m sure is perfectly fine.
@PurpleJillybeans I want to boost this but I also worry that boosting it will bring more people thinking that there's a safety issue here when there's clearly no electrical contacts wait effectively nobody follows me that's not going to be a problem at all boosts
@PurpleJillybeans itโ€™s like a biblical angel with many eyes
@PurpleJillybeans I don't see it doing the three-round-pegs-in-a-row Italian variant of the euro plug, though!
Seems like an oversight
@PurpleJillybeans I was expecting an @NanoRaptor in the comments but didnโ€™t see oneโ€ฆ so here it is.
@PurpleJillybeans This feels like a test. "How many plug types can you find within in 30 seconds?" ๐Ÿ˜‰
@PurpleJillybeans "I have every mouth and I must scream"
@PurpleJillybeans I bought this 6 way in Asia over 10 years ago.
@artnacrea @PurpleJillybeans
It's convenient how the most cursed devices are designed to kill themselves with fire.
@artnacrea This sure will power something somehow.
@PurpleJillybeans I guess I got the apocryphal version then
@PurpleJillybeans @joncamfield ๐Ÿซด๐Ÿป Is this the sefirot of the tree of life? ๐Ÿฆ‹
@PurpleJillybeans
No Schuko though with outward earth.
@AlisonW
It doesn't cover either the French Type-E or the German Type-F (shuko) since both require ground pins from the outlet side.
@PurpleJillybeans
@PurpleJillybeans this terrifies me in a way that i cannot put into words
