i have a theory that the reason "gifted kids" often don't find success later in life is that when you're a kid you're praised for things that are actually beautiful and significant. you're praised for drawing, for writing stories, for being a cute little science nerd, for learning languages easily, for having a particular talent, etc. but then none of these things really translate into success in adulthood bc none of the things that make you successful are beautiful and significant: being born in a rich family, being a callous prick, sucking up to authority, being a boring conformist, tricking others, having no morals, etc.
