I know those are all individuals, not organisations, but that's part of what we need. For better or worse, there's no denying that the live presence of celebrities of all different spheres was a huge part of twitter's draw, and the more of them who back us, the more people will follow (literally).
I'm almost reminded of how historically/anthropologically many religions attempted to proselytize by first persuading kings/chiefs to convert, then watching as their subjects slowly followed them later.
The comparison of celebrities to kings may seem an awkward one for some, but you get where I'm coming from.

@atomicpoet It's particularly powerful if they delete their twitter like @stephenfry His defection from "the bird's mired nest" was how I found out about Mastodon and joined, and I didn't even have a twitter account. To be fair, I think he was one of the most followed in 🇬🇧 , but perhaps not quite as beloved elsewhere.

I know there's a BBC America channel, and that he's done entire shows visiting you, our cousins 🇺🇸. (Not to mention other globally popular acting, narrating and writing projects).
I just meant that his following is probably deepest here in his homeland 🇬🇧, where I've heard people unironically refer to him as a living, breathing national treasure 🔶 💎 🔶.

I could've worded my toot better, but I think we're on the same page.
Unfortunately I haven't much BBC access where I am. I do get to catch him occasionally on things like "The Infinite Monkey Cage" (it's always a special treat when he guests alongside Brian Cox and Robin Ince, whom I also adore). And he was wonderful as "Gordon Gordon" Wyatt in "Bones".
But the rarity likely makes it all the more precious...
In my opinion he is a world treasure.
