I am thinking of creating a #monitoring / #observability project for self-hosted @Mastodon instances. Features I'm imagining:
* Basic uptime alert
* SSL Certificate Expiration Alert
* Mastodon version check
* Basic vulnerability checking for insecure defaults
* Simple host security checking (ports, etc)
* Self-hostable so you can run it on docker in your homelab or alongside your #mastodon instance
* Email/Discord bot alerting
* Simple visual dashboard w/ uptime status
Happy to hear ideas!
I took the plunge and decided to move to a self-hosted mastodon instance! This is merely an optimization for myself and for the public infrastructure. I get a faster Mastodon instance that I control, and reduce load on public hosted instances.
Not looking to host many accounts here. The instance is intended for friends and family who similarly want a fast / small instance.
