@LaineNooney, "The Apple II Age" (2023): yeah I interviewed them personally. They were a gay couple. "Both had relocated to the Bay Area ... to explore their nascent identity in what was then a vibrant locus for the gay liberation movement in the United States."

Happy Pride! 🌈

I have been with Aura for about 9 months now, and I'm really happy. Great people, great product, growing business. A company which has become profitable through the novel strategy of manufacturing tangible goods for which people exchange money--what a concept!
And finally, we are hiring also hiring a Principal Product Manager! https://auraframes.com/careers?gh_jid=7629027002

Hi! I kind of fell off on using Mastodon, but since it seems like this is where the iOS community is these days, I thought it might be good to mention that we at Aura are hiring a Senior iOS Engineer. Details here: https://auraframes.com/careers?gh_jid=7627086002

Pretty much everything in the world feels like it's in an unsettling transitional state at the moment. Tech is adjusting to the end of the Zero Interest Rate Easy Money Bonanza. Social media has been blown to bits. My friends who are screenwriters and directors have had their careers put on hold. Trump may go to jail or may be our next President. AI looms over everything.
I guess I should consider myself lucky to have a gig and chill out for awhile.

Sorry for posting about looking for a new gig and then not logging back on for like a month!

In any case, based on my replies, it sounds like things are pretty bad out there. Glad to know my experience is not unusual. I suspect things in the industry are far worse than is generally recognized at this point. Like, Dotcom Bust bad.

I know I’ve said this before, and I know it’s a terrible time to be asking, but…man, I really, really need to quit my job, so if anyone knows of any Senior iOS-type gigs, let me know.

I couldn't convince ChatGPT that the capital of West Virginia is Huntington (it's not, it's Charleston), until I told it to check wv.gov (which of course it cannot do), which caused it to finally concede the point.

Consider this your periodic reminder that ChatGPT doesn't "think" anything but is just completing sentences with statistically-likely conclusions.
