Happy to welcome and unofficially verify Phil Schiller on Mastodon: @pschiller

They’ll let anyone in here. Literally!

@gruber @pschiller Now I can say I was one of Phil’s first 250 followers πŸ˜†
@applewise @gruber @pschiller I’m number 1,340. Think I’ll make a plaque of that. πŸ˜‚

@gruber @pschiller Wait, is this _the_ Phil Schiller, or a parody?

Some link verification would be nice.

@EshuMarneedi He’s not going to verify on apple.com, get real. Trust me, it’s Schiller.
@gruber Well yeah, not apple.com, but like a personal website.
@gruber @EshuMarneedi Well, if they hadn't killed all those web hosting projects at Apple over the years, he could have verified with Homepage.mac.com
@gruber @EshuMarneedi I wonder if they could put something on the leadership pages (without exposing a visible link to Mastodon) that would allow verification.
@JoshHrach @gruber @EshuMarneedi It doesn't have to be a visible link, <link /> tag in header works too.
@Gargron @JoshHrach @gruber What would be cool (I don’t know if this is possible or not) is if we could verify the ownership of a specific domain, not the website it points to. That way, it could redirect to any website. For example, if Phil owned pschiller dot com, he could set up a custom TXT record or something and then set up a redirect which would go to the Apple leadership page.
@gruber @EshuMarneedi I was not sure earlier but if you say so I’m gonna follow him because I trust you since 2003

@gruber I don't know if you are joking or not.

His followers are about to rise because neither do others who read your toot.

@proximacentauri I wouldn’t joke about something like this. That’s Schiller.

@gruber well f* this mstdn.social server is so sketchy, I would imagine he'd choose something else.

I guess it doesn't matter because he can transfer himself in the future.

@proximacentauri @gruber I tried joining the mastodon.social just because it looked more reputable (and some social proof), but couldn’t find how. I joined mastodon.cloud in the end, but really out of confusion. Hard to understand the implications of the server failing, despite Mastodon being under the umbrella of web3/distributed.
@gruber I'm rather skeptical, given the polarizing nature of that account's first post. Would he post something so polarizing on a public forum? Would Apple let him?

Philip Schiller (@[email protected])

#HalfMoonBay thoughts and prayers for our town, gun control for our country

Mastodon 🐘
@learningxp If gun control is polarizing you've come to the wrong social network.
@proximacentauri I agree with the message, but I'm not a representative of a billion dollar company. Even if he's not employed by Apple, Schiller's a part of it one way or another. Any company of that size wouldn't risk any statement that would rock the boat.
@learningxp @proximacentauri I am sorry but gun control is something that is very much in line with the ethos of what Apple believe in. Also people too often forget the part that inconvenience them the most about the second amendment which is: a **well-regulated militia. **Right now there is nothing that is conforming to this in the various gun laws accros the US.** **
@gruber @pschiller welcome to the club, Phil
@jeremyburge @gruber @pschiller The tricky part is, as Phil knows, iTools has always used Sun/Oracle software to run @mac/me/icloud.com email. Can they or anyone spin up a mastodon instance for 500 million subscribers? I think maybe? Let's try!!!!!
@gruber @pschiller It’d be kinda hilarious to see him verify apple-dot-com in his profile metadata fields 🀣
@gruber @pschiller a warm welcome πŸ€— we can now verify Mastodon as an alternative to Twitter!
@gruber @pschiller welcome to Mastodon, Phil! πŸ™πŸΌπŸ˜Š

@gruber @pschiller @Migueldeicaza missed opportunity to repeat

Ladies and gentlemen

I shit you not

Phil Schiller

@chucker @pschiller @Migueldeicaza I should hire you as a ghostwriter.
@gruber @pschiller @Migueldeicaza I’m just saying that reveal was πŸ’―

@chucker @gruber @pschiller @Migueldeicaza Indeed it was. https://vimeo.com/130510366#t=12m3s

@gruber @pschiller Can’t believe I’m one of Phil Schiller’s OGs. :D
@gruber Was hoping for the β€œI shit you not” intro from The Talk Show at WWDC.
@gruber @pschiller Phil verifying apple.com in his Mastodon profile would have been the power move.

@siracusa @gruber @pschiller

This reminds me of that time I worked in Cupertino (post Aldus PageMaker) and entire ο£Ώ exec team had no idea 35%-ish of global internet was powered by Mac's running Apache
πŸ˜‰
Welcome Phil!
πŸ™ πŸ’›

@siracusa @gruber @pschiller Phil if you need a little blog or something lemme know and I can show you how to whip one up
@anildash @siracusa @gruber @pschiller don't listen to him, he's a movable type
@dmnelson oh yeah, that used to be a thing. whatever happened to iweb?
@siracusa @gruber @pschiller you say jokingly β€” but I imagine we’re not far off from companies setting up their own Fediverse servers to guarantee uptime and verification of their PR/marketing/public facing employees
@mgoedicke ouff that would be sweet!

@mgoedicke @siracusa @gruber Companies are one thing I kind of miss on Mastodon - it is/was nice about Twitter that you could contact a lot of companies through there.

Considering helping set up a hosted instance for my employer to #BeTheChange. Suspect getting buy-in from non-techies will be challenging at this stage.

@mgoedicke @siracusa @gruber There is perhaps a business opportunity for someone to try to be The Instance for companies/brands.
@siracusa @gruber @pschiller I just want to know what Phillip is driving these days, I know he’s likes his cars πŸš—
@gruber @pschiller @film_girl Where’s the rel=me on apple.com? πŸ˜„
@gruber @pschiller Whether a public lurker or active participant, glad you’re here, Phil.
@gruber I think @pschiller could the "Norm" of this place!
