Why does mastodon seem to be so slow compared to twitter in load times? #mastodon #twitter

For many years, I've been calling the BBC the world's best English-language news broadcaster.

In light of its refusal to air a program because it fears the right wing's response, I can't say that anymore.

Tragic to see an icon of journalistic brilliance destroy its own credibility...

One thing I will say about @Mastodon is that It’s lonely here. Not much social interaction. Which could be a good thing. I kinda like what I’m getting out of it at the moment, which is a newsfeed with some dev talk. It’s basically a great RSS app at the moment for me.
Still I will always wonder what the @Iconfactory could’ve done if they had taken a crack at it. 🥺
Going to be honest. I’ve been testing basically every Mastodon client out there. Many are great in their own right. But nothing comes close to what @ivory has achieved. The experience is simply too good. Even with all the features that are still missing. It feels like the most polished and mature app out there and it’s not even close. These devs clearly are veterans.

incentive structure is all wrong, i signed up for the first mastodon instance i came across years ago, it happens to still be running by sheer luck, but hosting is a commodity, you *don't* want innovation to happen on that side of the the stack so there's no mechanism to differentiate, so folks will end up running these things as charities until they get bored or wind up holding data hostage to recoup costs... or what am i missing? <handwavey communities blah blah something?>
