Second straight year where at least half of my work was regulatory compliance. Good thing I’m not a strident libertarian anymore, or it would’ve driven me up a wall.
I don’t know what the fuck this thing is (it was here when we moved in), but I’m pretty sure it’s been operating as a rogue DHCP server for the last two months and making my life miserable.
When I was writing the Learning Core Audio book back in the day, AI wouldn’t have helped me because there was no Core Audio sample code out in the wild outside of two or three things from Apple in WWDC sessions or the docs. I wrote much of the publicly-available CA sample code that the LLMs then stole.

End of a little-heralded era. Applets were never as popular as Flash, and both were swept aside by browser-native technologies. But still, it’s kind of what got me back into programming, during Apple’s mid-90s nadir, and with the promise of coding on Mac and deploying to Windows.

Karma’s a bitch.

I gave an opening keynote at the FIDO Alliance’s “Authenticate” conference a few weeks ago! Although it featured timely strategies and tips for professionals deploying passkeys, my primary goal was to explain, as clearly as I can, why passkeys are important and how we should use them to reduce the harm that passwords cause.

I’m really proud of this talk and I hope you’ll watch it and share it with others. I put care in to making it approachable while still delivering my perspective and insights to security professionals. If you don’t get the “why” behind passkeys, this talk will help fill that gap.
