This was the worst day of my #infosec career. I let down a bunch of folks who were counting on me, and I feel terrible. We're looking for new homes now, #threatintel #threathunting #dfir and #detectionengineering. I have great folks to recommend across the #fedijobs #fediverse. Please reach out if you need rockstars on your team!!
@jfslowik go easy on yourself. You’re a good leader and you give a shit.
@jfslowik I'm guessing you got stuck conducting layoffs on your team? I'm so sorry. That's not you personally letting people down, though. Sometimes bad things like layoffs during economic downturns happen to good people.
@jfslowik oh Joe, I’m so sorry. How can I help? You know the ways to reach me, my friend!!

@jfslowik Something I’ve learned in my career is that it’s often that when I feel I’ve let others down, they’re more understanding about my mistake than I am. I tend to tell myself, “Would I feel this upset if someone else did this?” and the answer is almost always no. I’d support that person and try to let them know that one mistake doesn’t typically encapsulate their worth.

Be kind to yourself!

@jfslowik Oy. :hugs:
I’ll try to toss this in front of people with hiring authority. People just uninstalled Teams and Outlook for the holidays. =\
@jfslowik Sending hugs 🫂 boosted your message
@jfslowik Shit-hell, man. Sorry to hear that. Keep your chin up, stay focused, and take care of your folks where you can. You all will end up just fine

@jfslowik You didn’t let them down. You gave them a chance, that unfortunately is ending. And you taught them along the way.

Sorry you are losing your team, though. That sucks.

@jfslowik sending ❤️

we often do what we can but circumstances far beyond our control affect our lives. that doesn't mean you let anyone down when others make decisions you couldn't prevent

good luck to all of you - the world is in desperate need of all of your talent

@jfslowik I’m so sorry Joe. Be kind to yourself, you take the responsibility of leadership seriously and not every battle can be won. I am sure you did right by folks because you did your best. If I come across any openings, I’ll let you know!
@jfslowik I'm sure you did nothing wrong. I hope everyone lands on their feet ASAP
@jfslowik Hey if you did what you could then they won't hold it against you. I had to lay off a lot of people this year before getting laid off myself and I fought like hell for them but didn't win. They saw that and are all looking forward to working for me again one day. I'm sure your people feel the same way. Good luck out there!
@jfslowik Dont feel bad. Stuff happens. If you could have foreseen whatever happened you would have fixed it. Learn from it and move on.
@jfslowik We're looking for security engineers, appsec, and security software engineers.
@jfslowik something tells me it was not your decision but you are noble enough to want to take responsibility. That you care enough to talk about this is a testament to your character. I’ll boost your post and will keep an eye out for opportunities locally. Take care.

@jfslowik man I am so sorry, letting somebody go never feels good; letting them go for reasons that are not of your desire/true ne essity is a shit bag of hammers wrapped in a rotting cloth!

The fact that you feel the way you do is testament to the quality and character of the leader that your team undoubtedly knows you to be.

@jfslowik I’m sorry, Joe. I can’t imagine having to let so many amazing people go that are not just amazing teammates but also friends. Take solace in knowing that this isn’t your fault. This decision was made by those above you. Ultimately, we can all blame the Fed for killing the economy, FWIW, which I know isn’t much right now. Hang tough man, talented people will land on their feet and often times great opportunities come from adverse circumstances.
@jfslowik I work in the field. I'll pass this along.

@jfslowik you can only do so much and I am sure you tried your best.
Do what you can for them going forward. For yourself just remember you do a ton, and nothing is perfect. You are a good person and sometimes a bad thing happening is what propels us forward to greater things.

@jfslowik personally I don't believe you've let them down because there probably wasn't much you could do about it. I know the feeling though. I'm sorry to hear about the team. Hoping you and all of your folks find something in short order.
@jfslowik Joe, I am sorry you are going through this. But I want you to know that you are one of a very few infosec people I know whose integrity shines like a beacon. I know you did the best you could, even if the outcome was undesirable. Hang in there.

@jfslowik I posted a list of active roles being recruited for last Friday (link to post below). Most are still active as of today from the same recruiter. Their contact info is at the bottom and all roles are remote unless otherwise noted. Best wishes.

@jfslowik Joe that's a rough situation. It sounds like you care about your team and that matters A LOT.

I’m hiring for a security architect role. They’ll get to work closely with both enterprise architects and security pros. They’ll work with a variety of technologies from cloud to industrial control systems. It can be done from AZ, ID, TX, OR, or WA. We have a team where we’re all learning and genuinely care about each other.

They don't need to know all of the topics. Instead, we're looking for someone who wants to learn to do those things as part of a team. Let me know if you have any questions. #hiring #architect #getfedihired #infosecjobs https://bit.ly/3Yv0l03

@jfslowik ahhh bummer joe I’m sorry to hear this
@jfslowik
Don't know you but if you were my boss, I would be impressed with your efforts to help.
@jfslowik so sorry to hear. Layoffs, firings and such are the hardest part of any business leadership role IMO. I'm sure you did everything you could!
@jfslowik the old saying goes “luck and skill make opportunities.” This also applies to bad luck. Your skill gives you the chance to turn bad luck into an opportunity to avoid disaster. Be well.
@jfslowik Sorry to hear that, but know that you're still awesome and have done a lot of good too.
@jfslowik I'm so sorry, its such terrible news especially this time of year. Youre a good guy, try no to blame yourself
@jfslowik you can't please the 🌎 brother. Be the best you can be and never allow anything to bring you down. 😇
