I've followed these smear campaigns against municipal broadband since 2005 when #UTOPIA started laying out their fiber to cities in #Utah.

Now that I work for one of the ISPs on the UTOPIA fiber network, I have an even closer view of what Big Telecom is doing to undermine communities rolling out their own public fiber infrastructure.

"Covert" and "sleazy" is only a fraction of the terms I would use.

It's probably obvious to most of you, but a big difference between the commercial social media platforms and the fediverse is that as those commercial platform grow, they get additional revenue from ads, from selling personal information, and otherwise monetizing their users. While that is turning out to not actually pay the bills for them, in the fediverse, just about every instance is run by volunteers and funded by donations or out of the volunteers' pockets. It's a labor of love and a hope for a better future. When traffic grows, we need to expand our capacity.

I have a friend who just got laid off from a web dev gig after recently graduating and getting married. He's looking for a junior front end or "full stack" web dev position, fully remote, probably working with React framework. He has background in test automation that he's trying to get out of. He has an insanely refined artistic talent and attention to detail and is a brilliant team player. About a year of experience. Anyone's companies hiring a junior dev role like this??
