That's the conclusion from recent studies on time restricted feeding / intermittent fasting compared to rat studies.

Early human studies were flawed because fasting participants were consuming significant fewer calories compared to the control group. Theories about autophagy were flawed because rat metabolism is much faster and benefits of longer term fasting are outweighed by muscle loss.
