China's Three Gorges Dam, the world's largest hydroelectric power project, is more than just an engineering marvel—it's so massive that it has even affected Earth's rotation. Built on the Yangtze River, this colossal structure stands as one of the most remarkable human-made feats, showcasing the incredible scale of modern engineering.

This massive dam is slowing down earth’s rotation, it is world’s largest hydroelectric project

While the Dam has brought benefits such as reliable energy and flood management it has come at a significant cost. The construction displaced millions of people and submerged vast areas of land including historical and cultural sites.

#China pushes ahead with huge — and controversial — #dam in #Tibet
Chinese authorities are pressing ahead with plans to build a series of enormous hydropower dams across a #gorge in the #Himalayas that is three times as deep as the Grand Canyon, despite concerns raised by Tibetan #humanrights groups and New Delhi.
An estimate from the Chongyi Water Resources bureau put the potential #hydropower output at triple that of the #ThreeGorgesDam. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/china-pushes-ahead-with-huge-and-controversial-dam-in-tibet/ar-AA1wvqow

Could China prepare the future use of water as a weapon in the Sino-Indian conflict?

"...of mutually settled borders, the law enables unilaterally imposed borders.
With #Xi’s regime approving the construction near the Indian border of a “super #dam” larger than even the #ThreeGorgesDam, this law seeks to uphold #China’s “legitimate rights and interests” over the #Tibet-originating cross-border rivers...

This week's news regarding the #ThreeGorgesDam are pretty worrying to say the least. Combine the #hubris of a totalitarian one-party system with a region prone to #earthquakes and a very wet June, and you end up with a possible disaster. I guess we all should be lucky that #China is not building similar dams in other parts of the wor... wait, what?
