Automation was eating into #labor since the 1800s.
#luddites had a go, but were smashed.

But as long as it was steam shovels and the victims were labourers, the upper classes did not have any problems replacing #labour with the machines...

... Even when specific #AI like spreadsheets and Decision support Systems were pushing folks out of jobs over the last ~30 years, everything was peachy.

But now that AI is going after white collar jobs, and we are going to see 80% unemployment, everyone suddenly is developing morality.

There were few of us, myself included warning of this as late as 3 years ago, and the folks who are posting memes now, were laughing at the #AiThreat

TLDR; #capitalism was replacing labour with machines for the last 225 years but there was little of class solidarity...
.. Now the machines are coming for us and there is no labor masses to help us.

Good Idea: Rethink tax systems for automation

https://english.elpais.com/technology/2025-11-30/if-ai-replaces-workers-should-it-also-pay-taxes.html

As AI and automation reshape industries, concerns arise about reduced tax revenues due to workforce declines. Nobel laureates, economists, and tech leaders like Bill Gates propose solutions ranging from taxing robots to adjusting capital gains taxes. While AI promises economic growth, experts warn of mixed outcomes: job displacement, inequality, and environmental impact. The debate highlights the need for governments to adapt tax systems to ensure fairness, sustain public services, and foster innovation without stifling productivity.

If AI replaces workers, should it also pay taxes?

The technological race among industry giants and the wave of layoffs they have announced has revived the debate about the advisability of taxing automation

Why we should tax AI

Taxing AI is not about punishing innovation. It’s about ensuring that the rewards are shared and the risks are managed in the public interest

#harvard confirms the massive impact of #AI #hiring
#junior roles ↓23%
#senior roles ↑14%
(285,000 firms monitored)

Before AI: 1 senior + 3 juniors = full team
After AI: 1 senior + AI = same output

We are creating #experts without #apprentices mentors without students. The professional ladder is losing its lowest rungs.

I created a draft plan to Tax AI.

No need to make it complicated, Tax ALL REVENUE, then REBATE for LOCAL WAGES PAID. This will tax non-labor revenue more than labor Revenue.

If you want to help, visit GitHub, comment, raise issues, or submit a patch.

Tax things, not People.

@parismarx @julie3dharris #ai should be priced seperately by law with a very high price per joules it uses
All it corporations should be coerced by law to make their energy usage for #ai services public
All #ai energy money corporations pay for should be invested in wind energy and the like in equal amounts.
So if #google pays 1 billion for energy for its ai services, it should invest 1 billion in wind energy that same fiscal year.
