Suppose a government created a new fiat currency paid only as a universal #BasicIncome to all residents, and levied highly progressive taxes on property which must be paid in this new currency.

Would this work to redistribute wealth, or would it merely drive up rents?

For the last three years, me and some other artists have been on a panel about basic income in Ireland. The main focus has been how the artist basic income pilot impacts the broader idea of universal basic income.

Ireland's Basic Income scheme is ok as far as it goes but one problem with it is that you somehow have to be an "accredited" artist in some way. So there's paperwork involved and probably some NGO/QUANGO. Someone in my feed recently went as far as calling it "artwashing." Sorry, I've forgotten who and I'd just rather write this than do the search thing right now.

I know it's often said that we should Universal basic income, and I agree with that. But I'm also thinking, atm, that we should have a similar basic income scheme for supporting open source developers. And it shouldn't come with a prerequisite of belonging to a developers' body and/or getting the right accreditation.
