I couldn't make syncterm work on Slackware 10 (yes, 10).
Besides telnet, do you know any other legacy terminals that I can use to connect to a BBS?

News from the #Floppy #Museum!

A friend of mine, fusion[1] from #OS2Warez, has written a tiny wrapper for #BBS #door programs so I can run them without needing a full-blown BBS. Combined with rlfossil, a telnet-to-serial-port emulator for DOS (yes, really!), you can now read and write messages in my little forum!

Just telnet to floppy.museum on port 8023 - I recommend using #SyncTERM or some other client that implements the IBM 437 codepage, or 850 in a pinch. The experience should be fairly period-correct, something akin to a 1200 baud modem based on my testing.

And just a reminder: This is a 286 machine, which also runs a web server, an IRC server, an FTP server and all of the above at the same time. It's not fast, but it gets the job done.

Also: Only one node at the moment. If it's busy, try again later! Consider it an early beta, for the moment! :D

Syncterm v1.6 running on OpenIndiana through pkgsrc

Deuce recently added support for the Atari ST flavor of VT52 to his SyncTerm program.

I first requested this feature 14 years ago. I was so excited it finally happened, that I made a new VT52 animation to celebrate.

Plus I dug up six more that I have never seen published anywhere else.

Some love for VT52 on the Atari ST - Break Into Chat

This Atarianโ€™s dream has come true, though it took almost 14 years. Last week, Deuce (Stephen Hurd) released SyncTerm v1.6, which adds initial support for the Atari STโ€™s VT52 emulation mode, as well as the three ST screen resolutions and color palettes. Today, I made a short new VT-52 text animation to celebrate: Though I [โ€ฆ]

Making progress with the #synchronet system. Got #qwk downloads working along with #syncterm as well. Now just have to get use to how #multimail works as the mail reader.

I finally got #syncterm working, and I've been poking around bbs's listed in an old copy of 2600 I had lying around. there aren't that many users, but it's like a fun little scavenger hunt, where the goal is to find more sites to connect to.

But also, how do I download things? do I need a second client?

I am currently doing some testing with #rc2014bbs and there is something strange here:

#rcbox #BBS runs on a Z80 CP/M system ( #rc2014 ) and I am using the CP/M file transfer tool KMD.COM to #transfer #files to and from the system via #xmodem (CRC and 1K - both possible).

This seems to work as long as the client machine up- or downloading files is an #8bit machine: a RC2014 with #Qterm works, a #Commodore64 with #CCGMS works - but as soon as I try to use #Syncterm or #Qodem or any other modern #Linux #terminal #program the transfers fail with either "error in header" or, more often, with "CRC error".

How is this possible?! ๐Ÿค”
