Speak ist ein 11-minütiger Animationsfilm, der für seinen intensiven Flimmer-/Stroboskopeffekt bekannt war, als er in psychedelischen Clubs im Raum London gezeigt wurde. Aus diesem Grund hielt Latham die Floyd für eine gute Wahl als Soundtrack.
Es ist sein zweiter Angriff auf das Kino. Seit Len Lyes Filmen in den 1930er Jahren hat England kein so brillantes Beispiel für animierte Abstraktion mehr hervorgebracht. SPEAK brennt sich direkt ins Gehirn ein. Es ist einer der wenigen Filme, von denen man wirklich sagen kann: „Er wird Ihnen im Gedächtnis bleiben.“ – Ray Durgnat. Ein wenig Hintergrundgeschichte… John Latham war einer der umstrittensten Konzeptkünstler der 1960er Jahre (man denke an Fluxus). Einige Filme von Latham, insbesondere Speak, wurden hinter der Live-Kulisse von Pink Floyd bei der Vorstellung des International Times im Roundhouse im Oktober 1966 und später bei einigen Shows Anfang 1967 projiziert.
