Yes, dear God, yes. The modern #ScrollBars are another huge gripe of mine.

KDE Plasma's default scrollbars are just serviceable enough, and I've figured out how to force usable scrollbars on #Firefox and #Thunderbird (can share, if you like).

Why the fork do scrollbars on my desktop (which I use with a MOUSE) have to look just like they do in iOS (which aren't exactly USABLE to begin with)?

Who the flip is making these decisions? Can I get their name and address so I can deliver a badly needed #wedgie?!? XD

psa : under the gnome DE, the setting to make scrollbars persistent now is under settings -> accessibility -> seeing -> always show scrollbars. this is what works for me today under gnome 48.

there are tons of other things on the internet of varying ages — change gnome settings, change dbus settings, hack a variable into the environment, sacrifice a tech bro

regarding #scrollbars

I kinda get why you'd design ridicilously tiny, vertical scrollbars? I mean… not really, but yes, they aren't the primary interface for people to scroll, but more of some indicator now?

but…

HORIZONTAL SCROLLBARS?

Why would you make those ridicilously tiny too? It's not like there were dual scroll wheels on mice nowadays?

Most people don't have one of those 90s "a4tech" "4d mouse" thingies? Those kinda died out? (and they were stupid to begin with, because both wheels were oriented vertically)

Yes, you shouldn't have people scrolling in both directions… but IF you have and thus show that interface element, then making it unclickable small doesn't make ANYTHING better?

(and since both should look alike, maybe just have visible scrollbars and be done with it! but that's just like my opinion man?"

Searching the #scrollbar...

How it started.
How it's going.

I once found a thread where the the #scrollbars issue was mentioned.

It was a very popular thread. 'nuff said

Things may have changed a bit. I ducked the string Amiga MUI, was pointed to the still functioning MUI site. Dug from there for famous MUI applications and then got to one nice one

I've included copies of the screenshots for our convenience

As you can see the scroll bars are properly formatted in MUI

Scrollbars are slowly shrinking into barely visible lines across browsers and Windows apps - a solution

#Mastodon #Question :
Is there a way to stop the scroll bars (both vertical and horizontal) from vanishing when the mouse is moved away from them?! It seems idiotic that you have to close in on the bar slowly to wake it up and be able to see where the actual 'scroll cursor' is to grab it in order to make a fine adjustment. It's not like they would take up any extra space if they were visible all the time.

Is there a Campaign to Restore #Scrollbars?

I don't understand why anyone would want to hide them

🤬😡🤬😡

One of the replies also covers making the scrollbars always visible as well.

Ever found modern fancy scrollbars in #Firefox inaccessible? about:config and: widget.gtk.overlay-scrollbars.enabled → false keeps them fully visible while not however. widget.non-native-theme.scrollbar.size.override can be used to make them thicker (I've set 24). #accessibility
