Oof. I really tried to write a novella that was basically anarchist Star Trek where a crisis happens and they elect a very junior crew member as temporary captain, but I couldn't find the "voice" for the main character. I'll go back to it someday if I can crack it.

They're teens, so they're a product of an anarcho-socialist education system. Small, directed "classes" where teachers work with students to finish projects that teach skills and knowledge. Very student-directed, but always incorporating the educational goals.
