These states cannot compare to anything experienceable in everyday life. Calling them the utmost meditative bliss, peace, and release is not an exaggeration.

#Meditation in #Buddhism is not merely a technique for calming the mind, but the core of the path to liberation. Integrating calming (#samatha) and insight (#vipassanā), it transforms perception, dismantles suffering’s roots (#dukkha), and fosters ethical character — bridging philosophy and lived experience.

Common Core Thesis and Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis of Mysticism in Chinese Buddhist Monks and Nuns

This study explores the phenomenological structure of mystical experience among 139 Chinese Pure Land and Chan Buddhist monks and nuns. Semi-structured interviews, thematic coding, and statistical analyses demonstrated that Stace’s common facets of mysticism as measured by Hood’s Mysticism Scale successfully described Buddhist experience as modified by Buddhist doctrines.

I'm going to do a 2 month #DarkRetreat this summer. Here's a photo of the room (below ;-)

The primary practice will be Internal Trataka - eg observing the lights / images produced by the mind. This becomes quite easy in the dark. The images appear before you in space - and they are quite bright in the darkness. This is a Samatha practice but I will frequently let go of the images and allow them to dissolve. In other words, #Samatha will be used as a basis for #vipassana
