Having had another set of cheapish BT headphones go south, no headphone jack and no love of dongles I'm re-living the #90s

And it sounds good!

This setup really shows me just how much fidelity is lost as MP3 then BT audio compress the life out of the music.

Holy cow... I am kinda old, so I just tried playing Space Quest III entirely from floppy disks and in glorious monochrome CGA. Well, it worked! ... But this definitely feels like it all happened "in a land before times!"

Interessantes Retro-Detail, über das ich heute wiedermal gestolpert bin: Ich wollte einen Screenshot des Space Quest III Installers machen. Unter IBM DOS 5.02 wurden mir zunächst einige Grafikzeichen falsch dargestellt. Hauptsächlich die Ecken der Rahmen.

Ursache dieses Anzeigefehlers war eine "zu moderne" Codeseite (850), die IBM/Microsoft irgendwann Anfang der 90er neu gestaltet hatten und damit die ursprüngliche Standard-Codeseite 437 ersetzt hatten. Beim SQ3 Installer handelt es sich aber halt leider um eine Software aus dem Jahre 1988 und so verlässt sich das Programm auch noch auf die ursprüngliche Codeseite.

Also... ab in die AUTOEXEC.BAT und CONFIG.SYS und schnell Codepage 850 durch 437 ersetzt. Schon sieht es wieder richtig aus. Neuere Programme, nach 1992 oder so, produzieren damit allerdings auch wieder ähnliche Fehler. Seufz... 😉
