Newspapers Continue Amazing Comeback

@hal2022

If you want some truly advanced wishing, you could try hoping that #RailroadTycoon 4 will eventually come out.

Sure - there's Railroads! and other train games, but nothing on the PC game has captured that business challenge instead of infrastructure challenge like Railroad Tycoon 3 did.

With friends, you might get to play Age of Steam or an 18XX game, but Railroad Tycoon 4 (or even working multiplayer Railroad Tycoon 3, I suspect) remains beyond our reach

Depending on your timezone - today (2024-10-27) is the 20th anniversary of Railroad Tycoon 3 coming out. Sadly - as far as I can tell - there's nothing yet that has quite matched it.

There've been other transport games - Railway Empire, OpenTTD, Cities In Motion, Sid Meier's Railroads - but nothing else has had that rich economic model, and that feeling that I'm making financial business decisions rather than being a civil engineer.

So - it's #traintuesday

#18xx fans, #CrayonRail fans, #CubeRail fans, people who like #boardgames about trains, video games about trains, #RailroadTycoon, people who just like #trains - anything to share?

Getting old stuff from me - newborn = not many trains rn. Years ago, I modified Martian Rails - a crayon rail game - to be played async over lunchtimes at work, and it was great. Wrote it up on https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2079683/asynchronous-play-martian-rails

(Scheduled this post last week... in case I forgot)

Asynchronous play of Martian Rails | Martian Rails

So - a few months back I was looking feverishly for a copy of Iron Dragon, and ended up with a copy of Martian Rails (because I found it cheap). After a few games, I decided to bring it into work as a lunch game. We're a ~30 person company,

Good Morning #Canada
Happy Birthday to James Jerome Hill, born September 16th 1838 at Rockwood Ontario. At age 9 he lost an eye to an accidentally-shot arrow - ouch - but that sharpened his focus to become one of the two greatest railroad tycoons. Hill battled with Edward Harriman, the other tycoon of the era, to buy up smaller railroads and add to their respective networks, and this competition nearly crashed Wall Street in 1901.

James J. Hill

Hill saw the potential of unsettled lands, and understood what settlers would need to make their communities thrive. By fulfilling their needs, he would allow both the region and his railroad to prosper.
