Hi @elduvelle_neuro! In vivo histology exploits the sensitivity of certain quantitative MRI (#qMRI) measures to biological tissue properties such as myelin density, iron content, or neural fibres. I work with human data, but research on chimpanzees, macaques, mice and rats is also available.
I recommend this review if you would like to learn more: https://www.nature.com/articles/s42254-021-00326-1. Authors @NikWeiskopf, @LukeJoelEdwards and @MR_Siawoosh are also on Mastodon.
Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions!
Quantitative magnetic resonance imaging and in vivo histology go beyond standard magnetic resonance imaging, aiming at characterizing tissue microstructure of the living brain. This Technical Review discusses advances in concepts, instrumentation, biophysical models and validation approaches facilitating this rapidly developing field.
