We can remove strncpy() from the Linux kernel finally! I did the last 6 instances, and dropped all the implementations:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/kees/linux.git/log/?h=dev/v7.0-rc2/strncpy
Over the last 6 years working on this, there were 362 commits by 70 contributors. The folks with more than 1 commit were:

Things #musl libc will never do (broad but not comprehensive):
- Nag you to update.
- Phone home to check it if should nag you to update.
- Tell you a CVE can't be fixed without updating to the latest version.
- Try to force you to switch from glibc to musl.
- Get other software you depend on dependent on musl.
- Rant against "wokeness" or "DEI".
- Integrate "AI" into your libc.
- Give you up.
- Let you down.
#fotomontag #586

A few months ago I threw this question out into the void - “what if you could access the fediverse through your Usenet reader??” and got almost no response. Still, the idea had lodged in my brain and wouldn’t go away so this weekend I caved in and built the thing. Hat tip to the author of the excellent nntpserver package that did all the hard stuff.
I look forward to seeing someone’s screenshots of fediverse posts on a Commodore 64, some day.
This will be released as a part of PieFed 1.7, coming soon.

So, I rented a FLIR thermal imaging camera for the weekend, for the serious purpose of checking the windows and overall insulation of our house.
But you can also take cat pictures with this thing.
"Germany’s Sovereign Digital Stack Mandates ODF: a Landmark Validation of Open Document Standards."
https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2026/03/19/germanys-sovereign-digital-stack-mandates-odf/
"The Document Foundation (#TDF), the non-profit entity behind #LibreOffice, welcomes the inclusion of the Open Document Format (#ODF) as a mandated standard format in Germany’s Deutschland-Stack, the federal government’s sovereign digital infrastructure framework for all public administrations."
Florian Effenberger (@floeff), executive director of TDF: "You cannot claim digital sovereignty while allowing your documents to be locked in proprietary formats controlled by a single vendor."

The Document Foundation (TDF), the non-profit entity behind LibreOffice, welcomes the inclusion of the Open Document Format (ODF) as a mandated standard format in Germany’s Deutschland-Stack, the federal government’s sovereign digital infrastructure framework for all public administrations. The Stack, published by the German Federal Ministry for Digital and State Modernisation (Bundesministerium für Digitales und Staatsmodernisierung), establishes the technical standards for a shared, interoperable and sovereign digital infrastructure serving all Germany’s public administrations. Under the framework’s “Semantic Technologies and Real-Time Analytics” pillar, ODF and PDF/UA are explicitly named as the two mandated document formats, to the exclusion of proprietary alternatives. “This is not a recommendation or a preference, it is a mandate,” said Florian Effenberger, Executive Director of The Document Foundation. “Germany’s decision to anchor ODF at the heart of its national sovereign stack confirms what we have argued for years: open, vendor-neutral document formats are not a niche concern for some technology specialists and FOSS advocates. They are a fundamental infrastructure for democratic, interoperable and sovereign public administrations.” The Deutschland-Stack is grounded in a set of principles that align with TDF’s long-standing advocacy positions. The framework adopts a “Made in EU first” principle, requires open interfaces and local data storage,
The discovery of the longest pattern ever for DDR5 Rowhammer flips! 😱
Join us for Kaveh Razavi’s talk “Rowhammer bit flips a decade later”:
📅 April 1st, 2026 | 11:00
📍 CCG Seminar room, CCGEG002
Abstract:
The first Rowhammer exploit was published a little more than a decade ago on a DDR3-based system. Since then, we have had two generations of DRAM technology with proprietary mitigations. In this talk, I present our journey in understanding the security guarantees of these mitigations in DDR4 and DDR5 devices through significant platform building efforts, painstaking reverse engineering, and creative system-level techniques. The results are not encouraging; DRAM is as insecure as a decade ago while the cost of independent security analysis is growing beyond what academia can do. I finish with a brief discussion of possible paths forward.
