we just got this amazing #decentralized #reticulum #messenger application called #Columba.

If someone could port this to #pmos #linuxmobile we could communicate together without internet... this is freaking awesome...

I can finally work on it (managed to unlock my device's bootloader and currently the kernel is flashing)

@RandomOxen
OnePlus 6(T)

The cameras don't work properly but in other respects it's about as good as you can currently get for #PMOS

@neil @lproven

I tried out #mobian on my OnePlus 6T today, to see how it compared with #postmarketOS (and to see if its camera app works better). Appraisal: since both of them use Phosh, the differences are subtle. #mobian camera app is no better. Moving excessively wide windows around to see them properly works better in #pmos. Subjectively, I think #pmos is a bit better than #mobian, but it's not a big difference. While the photos are still unsatisfactory on both of those mobile Linuxes, I'm sticking mostly with #UBports #Ubuntutouch

@shakil_tcs oh yes, Librephone! I didn't get why it's still Android-dependent though. I saw someone from #pmOS talking about that too

The focus of #NGIMobifree also seems to be mainly Android and Android dependent things. Good things like #Fdroid, it's true, but still I wonder if there's space for non-Android things in the research and funds?

@sri Many thanks for the news! It looks to me as if the secondary forward camera is detected as a device but not the primary (there are three in total on a OP6T). Everyone's work on getting the cameras to work in #pmos is *hugely* appreciated (and the other components too, of course)
@pabloyoyoista
Not sure whether this counts as successful, but I find the UBports Forum gets a fair amount of traction from more- and less-tech savvy people alike, and I would value something like that for #pmos. Even if it's mainly people griping about this or that, at least everyone including devs can see what the users' priorities are, which seems like good Requirements Engineering
@tomgag
Since you asked for an opinion:
I've been using Ubuntu Touch for 10+ years now. It functions GREAT but ultimately rests on AOSP, Android blobs etc. So lately I've been trying out #postmarketOS on a phone. It is generally very impressive, but the cameras don't really work (yet?) bcs the stack for them has still not yet been fully reverse-engineered. On many other #pmos โ€œphonesโ€, calls and SMS don't work yet. So, significant additional work needs to be done to get to a true librephone it seems. It would be great if such work could be accelerated, but ยฃโ‚ฌ$ยฅโ‚น and time, I guess.

@lionelb @postmarketOS

Yeah you're right that's one of the reasons I use #UBports #UbuntuTouch as my daily driver. But I've been experimenting with #pmos on my old phone because I like the idea of getting mainline Linux working properly on a phone, and #pmos is so *nearly* there, yet so far away because hardly anyone wants a smartphone without working cameras
