Calycanthus is very rarely seen in UK gardens. I have no idea why not because it has an exotic look and grows like a weed.

The lime green alien head, monochrome ballgown wings and shiny jet black globular abdomen are far more exotic and glorious than on any Paris catwalk.
For decades, the hard left followed their pseudo-religious mantra that the Labour Party is the party of the working class. The party apparatchiks on the Right of course exploited that with "I want you to vote against your principles because we musn't alienate the working class".
At its most grotesque, the hard left deemed their fascist-influenced neighbours to be on the right side of the argument, on account of their 'workingclassness'.
Escapees to the Greens like Owen will want to drag their religion along with them. They should be rebuffed.
Progressive change throughout history has had the middle class as prime movers. There is nothing to apologise for.
The value of an idea should be debated on its merits. Whether its advocate is the daughter of a bus driver or an opera director has no relevance.
Their religion has done great harm. They need to recant it.

This beetle has antennae about aa long as its body. The many tiny depressions over its surface in this case create a matt effect, so from a distance it is not metallic and shiny, as many beetles are.
It is Phytoecia cylindrica. It will be devouring hogweed. Spreading out across England slowly.
The Actinidia kolomikta is a close relative of the commercial kiwi fruit but purely decorative.
Whether this one was planted in the 1920's I am not sure. It became very tired and had some major surgery but as you can see it has bounced back well.
All four of the very tall Salvia 'Amistad' came through the winter in the ground without any problems.
Right up to the frosts they are awash with midnight blue flowers.
