@[email protected] just heard a listener feedback promoting #PostmarketOS . . πŸ‘€οΈ looking forward to a review at some point. A number of us are daily driving already πŸ˜‡οΈ

Hi @a
What do you mean by a linux phone?

Android use Linux and there is project like grapheneOs that are based on Android.

There is also other project that doesn't use android, only Linux, like #postmarketos. They are very differents.

@steltenpower Future-proof & somewhat user-friendly & not iOS nor Android is difficult.
The best option that fits all of those might be https://commerce.jolla.com/products/jolla-phone-preorder the Jolla Phone
Future-proof but not that user-friendly and not feature-complete is https://postmarketos.org/ postmarketos
Still OSAP based, but privacy first https://grapheneos.org/ now only on Pixel but soon on Motorala phones https://motorolanews.com/motorola-three-new-b2b-solutions-at-mwc-2026/ And determined to stay!

Jolla Phone Pre-order

"Currently the DRAM shortage will impact the production of devices like the #Pinetab2, #PineNote and #PinePhone. #PineStore founder #TLLim has stated that he doesn’t wish to increase the price of hardware significantly so production is halted for the time being."

Until the #AI bubble bursts.

Also, no #PinePhone2 any time soon, for various reasons 😞

FOSDEM 2026 Update

Hey again RSS readers (love y’all). In this update we share what we discussed at FOSDEM (PinePhone 2, community editions, DRAM shortage), what we demoed at our stand at FOSDEM and details on the PineTime Pro. Next month will have the main community update.

PINE64
Weekly GNU-like Mobile Linux Update (13/2026): Spring Cleaning

This past week: A PINE64 Community Update with (no actual?) news on a PinePhone 2, Phosh 0.54 release candidate tagged at Chemnitzer Linux-Tage 2026, postmarketOS announces archival of unmaintained devices after v26.06, first batch of Jolla Phone preorders ready to be completed, and way more. Collected in a city known for a famous tragedy. Enjoy!

LINux on MOBile

Thoughts aren't fully formed so this doesn't warrant a writeup yet, but so far I've got the following things I'm trying to figure out in #PostmarketOS:

  • why does my phone keep clicking? Sounds like any system event triggers an audio response.
  • is there a way to get a package in after pmbootstrap install by mutating the chroot directly? My changes apparently don't end up in the flashed image.
  • I need to figure out how to get debug logs. Disabling Bluetooth hard crashes the device and results in a reboot in <5 seconds. (Its kind of reassuring to realize this was a device issue rather than a PostmarketOS issue). Remote debugging hopefully will also help me sort out why plasma-mobile sometimes just doesn't appear after unlocking.
  • Something screwy with languages selection. I was trying to add a Japanese input method (anything to start) but Plasma Mobile has an empty languages section while Phosh has two different keyboard sections each with a different set of languages. Neither appears to give me some form of IME.
  • I'll probably have to sort out how to configure u-boot. The text flys by so quickly it isn't useful to see it, so I'd like to give myself a theme.
  • With how often I reflash the device to test, it would be very helpful to stick my Wifi credentials directly into the image so the phone comes online connected and ready for debugging/remote access.

I'm sure some of these have trivial answers while others are rabbit holes, but I wanted to publicly put my initial thoughts out there for an eventual writeup.

I'm so cooked   #postmarketos

Since #android gets closed, I am thinking about how to develop #applications in the future.

I would like to stay with #java , since that's what I am most familiar with.

My applications should, besides a #linux #desktop, also run on #mobiles , once #linux becomes more mature on them (e.g. #postmarketos, #mobian , #ubuntutouch ).

Is it #javafx , or #qtjamba ?

Or even something completely different?

What to use? What is expected to be mostly compatible with future #mobile #devices running mainline #linux ?

Have been experimenting with both, #javafx and #qujamba, using #apache #netbeans as my #ide, and both make a nice impression and work well.

Any comments?

πŸŽ™οΈ Whoever placed a bunch of big tables and benches at the ULB parkinglot rocks, having those allowed us to record a podcast featuring fifteen (!) people sharing their experiences on FOSDEM Sunday. Lots of folks from postmarketOS and special guests:

* @ariadne from Alpine Linux
* @flypig from Sailfish OS
* @1peter10 from LINMOB.net

Huge thanks to @williamtries and @tgm for editing this episode!
