In the last weeks/months, I've been using #PikaOS linux distro (both #kde and #cosmic)

Mostly because it has #nvidia drivers pre-installed. But I experienced a few issues and bugs

I think I'm done trying unknown distros

I recently learned that #ZorinOS can also come with nvidia so I think I'll try it

Zorin is well known and developed in #ireland

I wish I could find a good distro with Nvidia made in #canada

But, at least it's not coming from the USA. That's why I don't use Pop_OS anymore

#Pikaos seems to be everything I was looking for

except the official place to go with troubleshooting Q's is a fucking discord.

I don't care if it's the second coming of God's Chosen Operating System, I'm not using it if I can't easily search for problems. Preferably, on a forum that doesn't rely on the existence of another company.

Am Samstag noch großen Ärger mit dem #PikaOS gehabt. Das große Systemupdate, mehr als 1000 neue Pakete, hatte einfach alles zerschossen. Liebe Devs, wenn man schon so ein heftiges Update herausbringt, wäre vorher testen schon sehr geil gewesen.

Also der Test war somit nicht erfolgreich. Das Projekt muss wohl noch länger reifen. Ich bin jetzt wieder mit @mxlinux unterwegs. Und dank der Timeshift Sicherung war der Umzug jetzt auch nicht so dramatisch.

Auf der Arbeit läuft noch das @SparkyLinux erfolgreich auf dem Laptop vor sich hin, trotzt das es Semi Rolling ist. Bisher keinen einzigen Updatefail gehabt.

So the Owlbear has mentioned before that animations can be an accessibility issue. I personally find them to be very useful. They don't have to be much, or fancy, just present.

That said, I like them to be at least a little appealing. And the default #Niri stuff on #PikaOS fits the bill. I have taken to this tiling WM in a way that I haven't with others. The Expose feature combined with a simple scrolling workspace is familiar, easy to use, and powerful.

That said, I'm probably not staying here.

I just prefer a (very) slightly modified #Gnome workflow. The tiling features built into Gnome are enough for Owlbear s, and even if they weren't, the tiling Gnome Extensions fit the bill.

So imma prolly play with Niri for a few more days and then switch to… I dunno. It might be time to settle down for a minute. Something comfortable? #Arch, #Debian, #OpenSuse - one of the core operating systems maybe?

And probably Gnome. It's where I go to get stuff done.

So yesterday was my first foray into using #Niri and it's super pretty, friends. The windows organize themselves coherently by default, the keyboard commands are fairly intuitive and once I wrapped my head around the basics, the Owlbear could even guess a few (I'm working with the #PikaOS defaults here).

I'm running into a issue with it rendering Steam, in that it's just a black window and none of the contents are visisble. This isn't my gaming PC so that's not a HUGE issue. I mostly play stuff from #itchio or #OpenSourceGames on my laptop if I play games at all. So I can sort it out, like, when I get around to it.

Anyway, first impressions are overall positive! I'll report further when I have other stuff to say 😃
