For the curious, I'm currently running #PikaOS on my laptop as I search for a new home OS because #Fedora decided it loved #AI more than it loved me.

PikaOS is based on #Debian Unstable (Sid), and is a gaming focused distro, kinda like the Debian version of #Nobara.

Great installer and onboarding app, #APX and APX-GUI from #VanillaOS are installed by default making container management a breeze, and the installation of Steam, Heroic, etc. was literally a click away after install and update.

PikaOS has its own custom package management software called pikman that's like Apt, except faster and easier to work with (although it does have some hiccups).

I want to call special attention to the included wallpapers, which are FUCKING ADORABLE ๐Ÿ˜.

Overall it's been a good experience. I gotta say, PikaOS team, you might have a new owlbear-shaped fanโ€ฆ except for the goddamn motherfucking Discord support with no forums.

@1lya

Right. That's in the `libjxl-gdk-pixbuf` package.

All in all, the #Debian packages containing gdk-pixbuf image loaders are:

* heif-gdk-pixbuf: #HEIF
* libavif-gdk-pixbuf: #AVIF
* libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-0: ANI, BMP, GIF, icns, ICO, PNM, QTIF, TGA, TIFF, XBM, XPM
* libjxl-gdk-pixbuf: #JPEGXL
* librsvg2-common: #SVG
* libwmf-0.2-7-gtk: WMF
* webp-pixbuf-loader: #WebP

Got #WebP to load in #Inkscape!

I thought for a long time that Inkscape simply doesn't support WebP, but that isn't true. The problem, rather, was that the gdk-pixbuf loader for WebP was not installed on my system.

People using #Debian or another distro based on it need to install the package named โ€œwebp-pixbuf-loaderโ€. That's all you need to do; merely installing the package will enable WebP support in Inkscape.

This should also enable WebP thumbnails in #Nautilus, if you use #Gnome.

@interstellaire
Thanks, but I've determined this is a 'feature' when running under #wayland

Changing nothing, other than logging in under an #x11 session, and the flash of the desktop between videos doesn't occur.

So I'll stick with #x11 for now until such time as I can upgrade to a new release of #kde on the next stable release of #debian

had similar experience when i was huffing the nixos gas. these days my online space is well, you know.

i think that's the key, sun. being respectful of people's time then it's worthwhile. the openbsd guys are often labeled angry bofh's by newcomers. just have to take time to get to know them.

Like it or not, if you're developing for Debian, you're going to need to start using Rust.
