There's no excuse, not to make .deb files for #rustlang projects anymore with cargo-deb!
https://github.com/kornelski/cargo-deb

I know it's existed for a while, but I just found it recently and as a Debian user, would love to see wider adoption.
While some people may be able to install most programs from cargo, a lot of cool projects just can't be used by less experienced #debian, #ubuntu and derivatives users.

So if you are working on a project that not only targets #devs, make it easier for newcomers and publish a .deb file as well.
(cargo-aur also does this for #arch)

Remember that massive Debian family tree thread? It officially has a home on my Codeberg now.

I have cleaned it up, fixed the links, and organized it so it is easier to navigate. If you are looking for a non-Ubuntu Debian based distro, this is a decent place to start.

Pull Requests are welcome, or you can just tell me here.

Cookie monster!

I am just finishing up my latest Linux tutorial video. I spent the entire day working on it.

I am getting better at editing. My biggest goal of this video is to remove the "ums" and silent pauses. I am eternally greatful for Kdenlive. The more I learn to use it, the more I enjoy it. It is very accessible. I have a lot more respect for professional video editors. You can spend many hours getting it perfect.

One thing I am trying to remember as I continue this journey is from Hank Green, who popularized the 80% rule. Basically, perfect should not be the enemy of good. It might not be perfect by an "ai's" standards, but it is 100% human made and that is what counts. With that said, I learn something every time I make a video and I believe they are getting better.

I really hope you all enjoy my next video! It should be up tomorrow morning around 10:00 am EST (-5:00 GMT). Be sure to subscribe so you don't miss it! Also, if you missed my last video, I took a look at elementaryOS 8.1:

I am getting old and rusty.

How do I know?

Because the Debian release I'm using is old, and I still think I'm running the latest...

It depends. SysV init can serve one well. Of course, systemd has been taken over ever since.
But some might want to have a different experience.
I personally run #Debian - so systemd is my daily business.
It's all about choice in the end 🙂

The #Debian and #Proxmox teams both deserve huge amounts of praise for making in-place major system upgrades rather a non-event.

vSphere upgrades used to bring me out in a cold sweat.
