Even a limited #NuclearWar could kill a third of world’s population, study shows

"As escalating tensions among the #UnitedStates, #Russia and #China revive old fears of nuclear war, some researchers are warning that even a limited-scale exchange between such nations as India and Pakistan could have catastrophic consequences for global food supplies and trigger mass death worldwide.

"A nuclear conflict involving less than 3% of the world’s stockpiles could kill a third of the world’s population within two years, according to a new international study led by scientists at Rutgers University. A larger nuclear conflict between Russia and the United States could kill three-fourths of the world’s population in the same timeframe, according to the research published Monday in Nature Food.

“'It’s really a cautionary tale that any use of nuclear weapons could be a catastrophe for the world',' said climate scientist and study author Alan Robock, a distinguished professor in Rutgers’ Department of Environmental Sciences.

"The findings come at a time when — 30 years after the end of the #ColdWar — the threat of a #nuclearholocaust may be greater now than it ever was."

40 years ago this month, the TV movie “The Day After” premiered on ABC. I’m not much into made for TV films, but this was the scariest horror film I’ve ever seen. Now, more than ever, we need stable leadership in all aspects of government, and GenX and Millennials need to watch this film and make sure we never see it happen!
