Don't get me wrong, I understand that anyone going near the fellas with a knife is no small consideration, and recovery, I've heard is a few days of discomfort.

There was a young woman in my circle who wanted to get her tubes tied. She's of majority age, sound mind and body, and vested with full autonomy.

Every provider said "Oh, you'll change your mind, or you'll want children later, or "this isn't a decision you should make without your husband", a person who didn't exist. When she finally found a sympathetic surgeon, the hospital wouldn't allow it.

It took me, my attorney, a practicing bioethicist, her surgeon, and a specialist in childhood trauma arguing before an ethics panel at a top-of-nation research hospital to be able to procure for her the ability to get her tubes tied.

That's absurd. And infuriating.
