We explore James' message: faith without action is dead. We discuss the Good Samaritan parable and reflect on how to apply these lessons to our lives, moving from silence to active faith and gratitude for God's blessings. #FaithInAction #GoodSamaritan #BibleStudy #NewTestament #Christianity #JamesEpistle #GospelLesson #SpiritualGrowth #ReligiousTeachings #DailyDevotion

Are there #werewolves in the #NewTestament?
Not exactly—but there is a fascinating passage in #Matthew17:15 where a father says his son suffers from “#seizures.” In the Greek, the word is #selēnizomai, literally “#moonstruck.”
#Ancient #Mediterranean cultures often linked the phases of the moon with illness, epilepsy, and loss of #selfcontrol—and this idea makes its way into the #Gospels.

A quotation from The Bible

Alas for you when the world speaks well of you! This was the way their ancestors treated the false prophets.

If a man would follow, today, the teachings of the Old Testament, he would be a criminal. If he would follow strictly the teachings of the New, he would be insane.

The Whore of Babylon

This name refers to a female figure which is symbolic & an actual place of hostility. This phrase is mentioned in the Book of Revelation. Her full “title” is: Mystery, Babylon the Great, the Mother of Harlots & Abominations of the Earth.” She’s also identified as a representation of “the great city which reigns over the kings of the earth.” (Rev. 17:18) Her Bible passages are: Revelations 17:1-18.

She’s associated with the Beast of Revelation with a connection of equally evil kingdoms. Her apocalyptic downfall is prophesied to take place in the hands of the image of the Beast with 7 heads & 10 horns.

In I Peter 5:13, Babylon is code for Rome. Because at the time, the pagan Roman Empire persecuted Christians, before the Edict of Milan in 313. In Revelations 17:9, she sits on “7 mountains,” which are interpreted as Rome.

Others believe that Babylon, in this context, refers to an apostate false queen. A former “bride” who’s faithful, & who continues to falsely claim to be the “queen” of the spiritual realm, even though divorced & cast out. Believers of this think the “7 mountains” are the 7 hills of Jerusalem. The “fall of Babylon” in Revelations 18 is the fall & destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD.

A few Old Testament prophets refer to Jerusalem as a spiritual harlot & the mother of such harlotry. (Isaiah 1:21; Jeremiah 2:20, 3:1-11; & Ezekiel 16:1-43, 23) John of Patmos may have known these prophesies.

An example in Matthew (23:34-37) & Luke (11:47-51), Jesus gave all the bloodguilt to the Jerusalem Pharisees. In Revelations 17:6 & 18:20, similar phrasing is used in charging the bloodguilt to Babylon. This is also bolstered by Jesus saying, “It’s not possible for a prophet to be killed outside of Jerusalem.” (Luke 13:33)

The Whore of Babylon has long been assigned to different people or places. Some uber traditionalist Catholics believe that the post-conciliar church is the Whore. (Post-conciliar is known as Vatican II or the 2nd Vatican Council.)

Historicists believe that the Whore is the Catholic Church in its entirety. Martin Luther & John Calvin taught this. Some believe the Whore is a church. The 7 hills of Rome are suggested to locate the church. An image from the 1545 edition of Luther’s Bible depicts the Whore wearing the papal tiara.

Some think that the Whore represents the fallen state of traditional Christianity, especially the Catholic Church. Some think the Whore represents the world empire of false religion. In Thelema, the Whore is a goddess. Yes, the religion that Aleister Crowley founded.

A quotation from The Bible

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

A quotation from The Bible

Jesus also told this parable to people who were sure of their own goodness and despised everybody else. “Once there were two men who went up to the Temple to pray: one was a Pharisee, the other a tax collector.
“The Pharisee stood apart by himself and prayed, ‘I thank you, God, that I am not greedy, dishonest, or an adulterer, like everybody else. I thank you that I am not like that tax collector over there. I fast two days a week, and I give you one tenth of all my income.’
“But the tax collector stood at a distance and would not even raise his face to heaven, but beat on his breast and said, ‘God, have pity on me, a sinner!’
“I tell you,” said Jesus, “the tax collector, and not the Pharisee, was in the right with God when he went home. For those who make themselves great will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be made great.”

Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.

A quotation from The Bible

When he noticed how the guests chose the places of honor, he told them a parable. “When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not sit down at the place of honor, in case someone more distinguished than you has been invited by your host, and the host who invited both of you may come and say to you, ‘Give this person your place,’ and then in disgrace you would start to take the lowest place.
“But when you are invited, go and sit down at the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher’; then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you.
“For all who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
