So..

What should be a throw-away code name her captors used, & is only mentioned during a briefing scene, is now a tie-in hook for a thread to pop up later or in the sequel. The thing is that I can't nail down the code name because each of the three I'm mulling over yields a different thread, each with their own quirks

- monster mythologized
- deified
- third party investigating

The deified route could be very interesting. Medb really does not have the personality to be a deity. Yeah to a Jinrō she probably does seem like a god of wrath & death. But, she was the Trine for her territory, a position of power and duty that was from a place of a mutual respect with everyone in the territory.
Medb would be very befuddled if not offended by people bowing and praying to her.

#PennedPossibilities 912 — Describe your MC to us. (Looks, flaws, character attributes, their struggles, etc.)

- 5’8, a very lean buff.
- Short black hair, shaggy hair that looks a bit like a mane (like Lambert’s from ALIEN but jet black),
- lightly tan complexion,
- Her finger/toe nails are black slightly claw like. Her lips are black. Slightly pointed ears. Stark orange irises that look borderline luminescent when she's in wolf or hybrid form
– ZERO modesty. Being naked is as casual of a thing as drinking a cup of water.
– Tends to be sharp of ears, i.e. She catches when people dodge questions or are subtly dancing around a topic, and will dig at that obfuscation and lack of openness
— She has a ritual scar of a stylized Raven on her chest from the deal she made with The Morrigan. Shows up as a patch of dark grey fur in wolf/hybrid. (Deal made during first Human v Fae war, something to do with the death of her daughters. She never talks about details)
– typically reacts violently if someone tries to force their will on her. broken noses, fingers, and concussions are a common boundary enforcement method.
– Chaotic-bi , leans towards fems. She’s actually a very tender lover if sex isn’t initiated by combat
— slightly larger than an average wolf, while in wolf form.
— If she goes into hybrid from, don't run but find a place to hunker down if you can. Ahit's getting destroyed
— She’s usually in ‘human’ form, or wolf form. Hybrid/warform burns lots of energy and takes up lots of space
– has been known to live in wolf form for months on end as it’s her most comfortable state. If exhausted or over exerted she shifts to wolf form to recuperate.

— culture habit. She puts both hands out horizontal then turns them palms up. It is a show of respect by displaying that her hands hold no weapons and she has no intention of causing harm. Hands vertical and palms forward = willing to talk civilly but won't hesitate to use violence

#wordweavers 2026-01-25. If traumatic events happen, do your characters process it on page for longer than a chapter?

I don't write 'character gets assaulted by end of one book & is fine at the start of the next because of some ABO magic of the alpha's pack' bullshit. (If you get the reference then you know what book I stopped reading that series at.)

The Cantata of the Wild Soul is 11k+ words, and 10k of that is Parthia bouncing hard between holding together, burning fury, mania, and absolute emotional wreck

Current WIP, Medb has lingering problems from the murder of her daughters 700+ years ago. She's walking around partially numb from the trauma of her entire universe getting wiped out and no way to properly mourn in the way her people do. She ain't going to get much traction resolving that until the sequel .

#writersCoffeeClub 2026-01-25: What comes first: setting, character, plot? What comes next?

80% of the time characters are first, and they are always integral with the setting. From the characters comes the story

The other 20% is the reverse where plot, or setting preceded. My current WIP falls under this as the setting existed already in @GrayWolf57 books, and the general plot idea precipitated from the story Hippodrome.

I was inspired by Trinity, who is a reoccurring antagonist / sometimes (questionable) ally , and /always/ chess-moves scheming. It took a few drastically different iterations (Nimue - high tech+med fantasy) (K8/Kate - high tech) before landing on Medb [high fantasy]. The character base concept though was always "fish out of water, but it's a piranha with legs", an antagonist to the antagonists. Someone that moves with alien motivations, disturbing status quo when something drags her into the frey.

It's felt a bit like coming home getting a few sessions of Werewolf the Forsaken in.

Though one thing has started to grate after years with more streamlined games... I think the core NWoD sheet is a thing of elegance but hot dog if you don't get some serious bloat once you start dealing with Merits and Gifts (or Disciplines, Contracts, Refinements, what have you)

Lot of book-keeping, I've made all of my players reference sheets.

Your MC has to start a new business with their current skills. What do they do?

I've sort of kind of been try to get this concept to simmer and cook in the background. There's a gap from Medb getting loose, to when she turns back up to terrorize Trinity and Giftzahn for the death of Morgan's family.

I believe she lays low as a dock worker or some other grunt work where the workers are effectively invisible because society doesn't think about them.

It's the /afterwards/ of the confrontation with Trinity that's still a mystery at the moment. I know Medb & Morgan end up with a small vessel that resembles a firefly (or "Torch-butt" as Medb calls them). But my brain hasn't worked out what exactly they do from there other than head far away from Bellawood Station & even further away from Trinity's territory of Clarckson's Nest
