This is the best news I've had in a very very long time.

My favourite app is going to live on. The miracle I was hoping for is happening.

That app carried me through some of the worst years of my life. I can't even begin to describe how happy I am to hear from Abel Township again.

Recommendation for Stacy!

Naomi Alderman (*yuck*) series on great thinkers, "Human Intelligence" episode on Michael Faraday (religious nut ... I mean ... highly religious person and brilliant scientist).

"The modern world is inconceivable without this son of a blacksmith and his meticulous, relentless brain. Naomi Alderman meets the mind behind huge scientific advances – who made breakthroughs in the understanding of electricity, changed the technology by which we live and contributed to our theoretical understanding of the forces underpinning the universe. Faraday also devoted his life to spreading the understanding of science into public life via his lectures at the Royal Institution."

(It goes a bit too far with the "without him we wouldn't have ..." line-of-thinking but otherwise quite good. And, he refused a knighthood which I didn't know about before.)

Just finished listening to The Future by Naomi Alderman - brilliant! The audiobook was really well cast & performed. Great plot, full of ideas, incredibly relevant, should be mandatory reading for tech billionaires 😅

(Werbung, da Rezensionsexemplar) Tech-Konzerne kontrollieren die Welt - irgendwie musste ich in den vergangenen Tagen häufiger an dieses Buch denken...

Krimis mag ich nicht ganz so gerne, erstaunlicherweise lese ich aber ganz gerne Thriller, vorausgesetzt, sie spielen in der Zukunft.

Worum geht's?
Drei Unternehmen beherrschen die Welt in einer nicht ganz so weit entfernten Zukunft. Zufällig ist die Welt gerade dabei unterzugehen, doch für die CEOs dieser Unternehmen kein Problem, sie haben in guter, alter Preppermanier vorgesorgt. In Singapur wird die Survival-Expertin Zhen durch eine mysteriöse App vor einem terroristischen Anschlag geschützt und setzt selbstverständlich alles daran, herauszufinden, wo diese App plötzlich herkommt. Natürlich hat sie einen ziemlich schlauen, nerdigen Kumpel, der ihr dabei hilft und ein bisschen Liebe hat Naomi Alderman auch noch in ihr Buch gestreut. Es lässt sich gut lesen, überrascht mit einigen Plot Twists, hat für mich recht viel von einer Persiflage auf die üblichen Thriller (ob Naomi Alderman das so gedacht hat, weiß ich allerdings nicht) und kommt recht rasant daher. Genau das Richtige für ein Wochenende oder einen langen Nachmittag auf dem Sofa, während es draußen windet und regnet.
