Reading update
Just finished: Before Your Memory Fades, by Toshikazu Kawaguchi.
Up next: The Lantern of Lost Memories, by Sanaka Hiiragi
"If you could go back, who would you want to meet?"
So that was the third book in the time-travelling "Before the Coffee Gets Cold" series. No going back in time to save the world or anything like that, just a collection of stories about people with regrets and trauma trying to find their way forward. I'm enjoying them. Confusingly it looks like books 4 and 5 actually take place between 1 and 2. I'll get to those soon.
The Lantern of Lost Memories was recommended as being similar and has just come off library hold, so that's next.

Horus Heresy, State of reading: 57 The First Wall (Siege of Terra 3)
First book since the siege began, that I consider a bit weaker. One of the story arcs was disconnected from the other plots, and though I really like the pov from regular humans, this one was too far away from the action, and its twist was killing the narration.
I liked the loyalist parts, because it felt desperate, with small glimpses of hope.
The traitor view though was exhausting, because none of the characters really made progress, beside scratching the walls. They hate the loyalists, the emperor and each other, but that's no news. I am sort of disappointed that no traitor is ever reconsidering his/her side, because there is so much criticism towards their leaders, there should be at least one ... 😅
