Actually, I have some questions about #AudioBooks

You can't say you've read the book, but having read a book is a common phrase that people understand. 'I've read that book.'

While 'I've listened to that on audio book' is accurate, it doesn't have the conciseness of 'I've read that book'.

Do you think there needs to be a new phrase to describe the act of listening to an audio book?

Like: 'I've audio-read that book.' or 'I've audioed that book'.

Audio-read sounds OK, I think.

Do people who listen to #AudioBooks a lot have a preference to who's reading? Will they avoid a book if the wrong person is reading and are they more inclined to listen to a book if they like the reader?

I tried an audio book once but didn't finish it. It was the first Sherlock Holmes book and I found it a bit boring.

But one thing was I didn't like the reader's voice. He had a posh accent and irritating inflections on certain words.

If you have never listened to my audiobooks before and don't know where to start, allow me to recommend The Giantess Slave by Amber Collins.

A female mad scientist kidnaps two party girls to create the ultimate instrument of her revenge: a 200-foot tall woman!

It's a scifi story with a light sapphic vibe that's the lowest heat of all my books -- it's far more suggestive than explicit and barely registers as PG-13.

*Friends sometimes say they'd like to check out my work but feel uncomfortable at the thought of listening to me narrate spicy sex scenes. I respect that! This might fit the bill.

It's also as campy as a 1950's drive-in movie.

And I had more fun than I know how to tell you doing the sexy mad scientist voice!

Bonus: for reasons I absolutely do not understand, several listeners have told me that they love to listen to this book to fall asleep to. Maybe my MILF-y Mad Scientist voice is soporific?

My dad is partially sighted with poor motor control. He likes audiobooks but every player I tried had tiny buttons and too many screens.

I’ve now made this one. Two screens, big controls, high contrast.

When I want to send him a new book, I just text him a link — he taps it and the book appears in his library.

It always comes back to the last book he was playing, ready to play again.

The settings are configurable via a link too.

This is very much made for my exact specific needs with him, but it’s open source and free if it helps anyone else.

Something that listeners may not know about the world of audiobooks:

Authors choose which platforms to sell their audiobooks on. Narrators don't!

Narrators are guns for hire. We show up and do the work, but authors control the business decision.

Listeners sometimes tell me that they wish the books I narrate were available on a particular platform, or that they *weren't* on particular big monopoly sites.Me too, friends! But as a narrator I don't call those shots.
