Today in Labor History April 12, 1981: Joe Louis, the Brown Bomber, died on this day. Louis is considered one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time. Successfully defended his boxing title in 25 consecutive fights, an all-time record in all weight classes. He was one of the first black men to become a U.S. national hero and helped integrate professional golfing. Adolf Hitler launched a vendetta against him for beating Max Schmeling in 1936.

Myth, regardless of veracity, can have more power than any truth. This power is not always used for positive ends.
