I really don’t like the “explain it to me like I am 5” line. It demonstrates a fundamental ignorance about human development.

We reach the age of reason at age 7 so it is effectively like saying “please explain something to me like I am impossible to be reasoned with.”

But perhaps that is honestly what is being said and it isn’t an ignorance of how irrational everyone is developmentally at 5. #FramingEffect #CriticalThinking #Communication #NeurodivergentWisdom

7️⃣ Framing Effect – Part 2
Jean Calvin’s Protestant Work Ethic has long maintained a 14th century predestination mindset in policy and philosophy.
Pushing back against this framing restores the reality of free will and opens the door to creative solutions going forward.

6️⃣ Framing Effect – Part 1
How information is presented can change the choice we make, even when the facts are the same.
We can let others’ framing limit our perspective, or we can reframe to see new possibilities.
Used deliberately, framing can strengthen free will by making more options visible.

A classic result from Kahnemen & Tversky didn't replicate in most subgroups of a country in West #Africa (N > 1000).

But the #framingEffect DID emerge among men on a case about #terrorism in a region that recently suffered a terror attack.

I think, they could do better by framing the statement to:

"For each clean room, a child has to suffer hunger for a day."

Neurolinguistic priming reveals contrasting gender biases in Republicans and Democrats

Republicans judged women’s authority violations more harshly than men’s, while Democrats judged men’s violations more harshly than women’s. These biases diminished when gender information appeared later in sentences, highlighting the influence of framing on moral judgments.

Another #framingEffect?

In "The Allure of #Simplicity", Jack Justus, Samantha Wakil and I run three #experiments on people's evaluations of explanations.

Merely labeling explanations 'simpler' or 'simplest' made people more vulnerable to the #baseRateFallacy and the #conjunctionFallacy!

Jack and I present our data and conclusions at #PSA2022 on Saturday.
