I'm not too sure what to think of this little fellow. If it's a tree hopper, is that bad news? I was careful not to harm it, but maybe it's aiming to destroy my trees?
If it's not a hopper, what is it? My first search on INaturalist came up with it being a plant bug (or something equally vague). Well duh...
The next search thinks it's a tree hopper.

On the subject of getting protocols wrong:
There's some unknown (to me) FediVerse software out there somewhere, on 1 node, that cannot properly do thumbnail creation when there are multiple URLs in a message. It's concatenating the URLs and trying to fetch the result.
Bizarrely, it doesn't combine all of the URLs.
My educated guess is that it's trying to efficiently fetch things from the same domain using HTTP/1.1 persistence, and is making an array of subarrays of URLs, bucketed by hostname (and presumably schema and port), only to erroneously flatten the subarrays at some point.
If your thumbnail for the preceding post is a 404 error, yours is the node. Don't tell the world, but do privately tell your local sysop that there's a bug in the node's software that's causing it to make bad HTTP requests.
OK, this is the first post in my thread, that was 'unlisted', and all of the sudden, in the middle of the thread it is reset to 'public'.
I did not reset this. I replied to my own 'unlisted' post, expecting it to also be 'unlisted'.
Instead, it's public and no longer part of the initial thread.
@[email protected] We got super lucky with the clear weather here in Tasman. Never thought I'd see it with the naked eye this far north. Hell, wasn't sure if I'd ever see it. Pretty astonishing, and pretty, and astonishing.
FYI for anyone wondering about the picture attachment - it showed up for me in the browser if I go to Ian's profile on mastodon.nz but not in the app. Maybe something to do about it being edited in, instead of part of the original post. #fedibugs maybe?

**Update: **looks like the notes were not failing to save, but failing to display after saving. And Elk has quickly rolled out a fix. Thank you Elk team!
FYI for those of you who use @elk - there's a bug where user notes appear to save but actually fail to. If you want to save a user note, you'll need to use the vanilla Mastodon interface (or some other app where notes are working)
