First release of the largest extragalactic HI catalog

The FAST All Sky HI survey (FASHI) was designed to cover the entire sky observable by the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST), spanning approximately 22,000 square degrees of declination between -14 deg and +66 deg, and in the frequency range of 1050–1450 MHz, with the expectation of eventually detecting more than 100,000 HI sources.

An international team of astronomers led by Durham University and including astronomers at the UK Astronomy Technology Center has reported the first detection of a rotating disk structure around a forming high-mass star outside of our Milky Way in another galaxy.

So now that I have migrated to #astrodon maybe I should do a new #introduction. I'm a postdoc at Stockholm university working on #ExtraGalactic stuff and Lyman alpha in particular. My PhD focused on low redshift galaxies and with the help of #JWST I hope to extend this to higher redshifts in the future.

I am also one of the creators of the @lasd together with @antihayestamine and Max Gronke

Outside work from that I am a general nerd with special focus on outdoor life and TTRPGs :)

Huge extragalactic structure found hiding behind the Milky Way

A team of researchers with members from Universidad Nacional de San Juan, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul and Universidad Andres Bello has found evidence of a large extragalactic assembly hiding behind one part of the Milky Way galaxy. The group has published a paper describing their findings on the arXiv preprint server while awaiting publication in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics.

I’m an #extragalactic astronomer at the #OpenUniversity in the UK, interested in submm blobs, strong gravitational lensing, #MachineLearning applications, crowdsourced data mining (#CitizenScience), and #OpenScience. I do fun stuff in the European Open Science Cloud #EOSC and work with #Euclid, #LSST #DESC #SLSC, #Herschel, #ALMA, #HST, #JWST and pretty much anything that’ll give me observational data tbh
