こちらは「くじゃく座（孔雀座）」の方向約3000万光年先の渦巻銀河「NGC 6744」です。画像を公開した米国科学財団（NSF）の国立光学・赤外天文学研究所（NOIRLab）によると、渦巻腕（渦状腕）が広がる円盤部の幅は約17万5000光年。右下には衛星銀河（伴銀河）の「NGC 6744A」が1本の渦巻腕の先端付近に写っています。
