The Driver series was always kinda the poor man's GTA. The GTA at home, if you will. #Driver2 on #GBA is probably a technical marvel, bringing open world 3D driving to a handheld, not really known for its 3D capabilities. They probably shouldn't have. It could have been a top-down perspective, but I appreciate the effort.
Everything feels so bad, the driving feels slow, the turning is clunky, the depth perception is awful, and damage dealt to mission targets doesn't seem right at all. Tanner and pedestrian sprites are horrific, vaguely, humanoid shapes.
And with all that, I weirdly enjoyed myself when I got into the flow of it. I hesitate to recommend it, as it is not particularly easy to stomach, but it does have a weird charm to it all. Personally, I found it a fascinating experience, but mileage will vary!

Zander👾 Here's a couple of great retro titles for the PlayStation 1. Driver 2 and Sim City 2000.
The Driver series was my first true open-world driving simulator games & it blew my mind spending entire summer vacations playing them.
Sim City 2000 was another game I would play for hours at a time. I drove my parents crazy (they found it boring), but I played it for years and it never got old. Will Wright (creator of Sim City/Sims) & team are great folks, I cannot wait to see what the next fancy new thing is they are working on now! 😉😉😉

Ok does anyone know why #Driver2 on the original #Playstation won't let me steer with the dpad? I don't have DualShocks, so no analog sticks at all. The manual says it should work with the non-stick controllers but it's giving me nada. The dpad absolutely works in other games (and who knew #Frogger2 would be so much fun?).
